For some time now Sony (Blu-Ray) and Toshiba (HD-DVD) have engaged in a format war over the High Definition standard and the war has just ended. And Sony is the winner. In effect, Toshiba has thrown in the towel (*) after Hollywood (Warner Bros.) and major retailers such as Wal-Mart adopted the Blu-Ray format. The consumer will be the winner in this battle, because, until now, they did not know what choice to make when purchasing High Definition Multimedia equipment. Moreover logical drive prices are expected to fall by next Christmas. And, for us, the video enthusiasts, the ball is now in the court of the manufacturers of camcorders and video editing software to incorporate the Blu-Ray standard in their new products. (*) Toshiba announced on 19th February 2008 that he will stop development, manufacture and commercialisation of HD DVD player/recorder. Link: official article Annonce Reuters Article Le Monde
