I am a complete newbie to this videoediting game but I was so impressed by the 30 day free trial version of Studio 15 that
last week I dug deep for the $99 to purchase the full version and
extra content.
Since installing it I have had nothing but frustration. Looking at several
forum comments, some of these problems appear to have been unresolved for several months.
Here is what I have had to contend with so far:
1. I edited my first film with the trial version and was very happy
with the intuitive, easy to use editing functions, including the titles and
(limited) sound effects available. Occasionally there was a glitch where I
could only see a green screen, but that was usually solved by closing and
restarting.
2. The moving titles seemed to work OK and appeared as designed on the
final edited version.
3. However I had trouble with burning the movie to a DVD. Each time I
pressed the 'make movie' function the disc ejected. I wasn't sure if that
was due to a faulty disc or not, but wondered if it was necessary to buy the
full version of Studio 15 before that final step was available. However,
once I had installed the full version of Studio 15 (and inserted a different
disc) I was able to burn the movie. EXCEPT that the moving titles now
appeared on the green screen and not over the top of the intended scene.
4. I went back to the editing function and tried to fix the green
screen problem but couldn't.
5. Then I tried to edit out a couple of scenes from the video track. I
deleted two shots but then I wasn't allowed to pull back the subsequent
scenes to close the few seconds of gap. The red 'forbidden' indicator
appeared, along with the message that "[my file name] Pinnacle Studio
Ultimate is not enabled for PAL'. (Yes, all tracks were unlocked and the
Setup/Project preferences was set to PAL standard.) I did seem to be still
able to edit the sound track and title track. (I am in Australia wheer we use the PAL standard)
6. So I tried to find some more material from my C Drive or D drive to
fill the gap, but guess what? The Import function could not 'see' these
other source files. I have not yet discovered how to get back to my library
sources and import them. (Have since tried again but cannot import anything or open even my edited film withou getting the PAL error message.)
7. I did manage to change some moving titles for fixed titles, but
that's hardly an answer is it, if the whole moving title function is not
operating properly.
I find this all so frustrating since I thought the software was brilliant
before and now it won't let me do the basics.
PS 8. I contacted Avid support, they asked me for my serial numbers or installation keys and I have heard nothing else since from them.
