"New batch file for transferring content into AVID Studio"

Here they are...

With each new Studio version, you are used to find our batch files. Enjoy !

  1. batch file to transfer old Pinnacle Studio content to new AVID Studio; realised by Le Papy with the help of Francis57

Today, it's a little bit different, since some plugins are not functional into AVID Studio. Therefore, this batch file called "Transplug-HFX" and which depends of your Operating System (OS), will only transfer working content to Avid Studio.

It transfer all fully functional plugins (or working plugins) from Studio (12, 14 or 15) to AVID Studio which is still installed on your computer.

Working plugins which are transferred are :

  • Boris Graffiti (* to manually transfer Boris Graffiti, see below);
  • BSEffects;
  • Canal+;
  • JpsEffects     (1 effect not fully functionnal)
  • MisterZ;
  • VirtualDub   (some effects crash Avid Studio)
  • WlFilter       (5 effects not working)

All DV FX transitions (HFX) which are currently in your Studio (12, 14, 15 version) album on your computer, will be merged and transferred to AVID Studio. We strongly recommand that you first run the batch file Repare-HFX-Sxx corresponding to your OS, in order to have an up-to-date album for one of your Studio version.
25 th September 2011 : the patch Repare-HFX is replaced by Repare-HFX-11-12-14-15, see "Avid Studio, Pinnacle Studio and 00 - Declic-Video Transitions".

Example : if a Studio version is installed on your computer, you should run the batch Repare-HFX-11-12-14-15.bat and then, OPEN and CLOSE Studio 14 before processing with the transplug batch file.

This batch file will be run once to transfer plugins to Avid Studio after its installation. You should use it according to the usual conditions mentionned in our webpage: refer to point 3 of our instructions here.

  1. Batch file to update HFX album for Avid Studio, realised by Le Papy with the help of Francis57

After using the transfer batch file above, your HFX album in Avid Studio is up-to-date. But when you will create (or delete) new HFX transition, or when you will download a new transition and launching the corresponding HFZ file, you will need to update AVID Studio album. To do so, please follow the guidelines :

It means that you will need to keep one Pinnacle Studio version on your computer (12, 14 or 15), in order to have AVID Studio reconstructing its HFX album...

  1. General information related to HFX transitions

Avid Studio is ordering its transition in different sub-folder, according to their characteristics upon creation. DV FX transitions have been created by various users. Therefore, they are currently ordered according to the HFX version used to create them, in 5 sub-folder in AVID Studio:

  • 00-Declic-Video
  • HFX Basic
  • HFX Plus
  • HFX Pro
  • User Transitions

In the future, we will try to group them all together, in the same DV FX folder. The future has arrived 25 th September 2011, see "Avid Studio, Pinnacle Studio and 00 - Declic-Video Transitions".

But why a batch file ?
The batch (or .bat) is different than an executable file, that allow you to transfer, as explained in the previous steps of this tutorial, all plugins as well as DV FX HFX transitions from Studio to Avid Studio. At the opposite of other files, like .exe, you can edit our file with NotePad (right click -> Modify), so you can see what is inside. It allows you to see which operations are performed, in summary, what will happen. Even if the code seems complicated at the first glance, you will rapidly understand what is behind, which kind of operation we are doing, and therefore to better understand that file manipulation run on your computer are not risky (provided that you are downloading the batch file from our website and not from elsewhere). With a batch file, you exactlly know what's going on !

[Download the batch file according to your OS]

Maybe it's not the easiest and fastest solution, but to my opinion, it's better than nothing and much faster than doing it by hand.

(*) Manually transferring Boris Graffiti (thanks to Alan for the information):

  • Uninstall Boris to start fresh
  • Install Boris Graffiti from the Pinnacle Studio 12 disk. This installed Boris Graffiti 5.2.2.1425.
  • Then copy the two files (.fex and .xml) from Studio 12 installation (might be restored from a backup as well) into 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio\plugins\RTFx'. Note the location and case sensitivity here. Boris Graffiti can now be found under 'Creative Elements -> fx Effects -> Filter -> BorisFX'. Note that the "Filter" item is new. Or, if you're just looking at "Effects: (all)" within the "Movie" option, you'll see "BorisFX" as an item and "Boris Graffiti" within that. This effect can then be applied to something and by opening the Effects Editor you can edit it.

I used the previous transfer file(pre March 27th) and it put all the declic HFX's in one file, translated and large thumbnails.I can easily see what the transition is.Is there any reason to re-do it with the new batch file.?I have Studio 14 collection in it's "stock" version.I did not buy any premium content which I believe is what Boris, JPS and WL filter are, and if not how do I unlock them?A bonus item ,when I ran the rapare file it transferred all the content from AS(Avid Studio) to studio 14,which made me leave studio 14 as a second go to app. for simpler projects.i.e. when my wife wants to make a slide show she doesn't have to learn a new format. To all of you at DECLIC thanks for all your help and support. With this new app. I feel I am back on track ,editing is fun when you don't have to trouble shoot all the time.

Has anyone tried Vitascene v2 pro demo with avid studio?

Seems to make the app crash for me when applying effects eg. glow wipes, etc..

Its the same for Vitascene V1. Has anyone experienced this?

All my plugins transferred to Avid from Pinnacle Studio 14 except i had 242 Alpha transitions and only 112 (the origianl ones with PS14) transferred. Also with my video montage, i had some 20cents montage in PS14 that got trasferred to Avid in a list only, but they don't actually work? And the new avis montage list got transferred to Pinnacle studio 14 but are only visible in the list and dont work in PS14?

So far, we had no negative feedback for AVID, I am personally using it without problems. Maybe you could describe what you call "not adjusted for AVID" ? Is it for HFX, plugins or what else ??

First I express my graditude to you all for this enlightening web site. You make video editing fun. I love Hollywood Effects. I am an amatuer but I love the idea of HFx.
One small item and then one major item.
1. In bat file "Repare-HFX-AVID-Vis64_Sev64.bat" the opening comments (French and English) refer to "(VISTA32 OR SEVEN32)". I assume the comments are wrong and the file name is correct. Am I correct? Please make this correction.

2. I am using Win7-64bit and S14 and AVID.
I run HFz file, from Declic Video, to put HFx file in Easy Editor. (OK) I run "Repare HFX-S14 Vis64-Sev64.bat" to update S14 album. (OK, Open S14 make sure HFx is there, it is.) I run "Repare-HFX-AVID-Vis64-Sev64.bat" and I get "No transistions transfered." I run "Transplug-Studio-AVID-Vis64-Sev64.bat" and HFx file appears in AVID. I understood that the "Transplug..." bat file was to be used once to transfer all S14 plug-ins, including new HFx files and after that "Repare-HFX-AVID...." would transfer any new HFx files from S14. It is not working for me. One more thing AVID insists I place AVID DVD in drive and point it to "Bonus Content" folder to allow HFz file to run.

Please advise me where I am wrong.

Hello Bill C,

Thanks for your feedback.

1. You are right, it's a typo. I fixed it, download the file again, and it's ok.

2. You understood correctly, normally you only use "Transplug..." file once. I will investigate, please come back again if I forget (I am busy at the moment).
Regarding the DVD problem, I also encounter the problem, please refer to the following tutorial: My HFX transitions create problems for me, Step 1 - Item 5

HFX files do it in Studio12/14/15
Avid I have not changed.
I must first change s12/14/15 immediately or can I use the batch for all 15 and then into avid?
Or wait until a better version comes to things easily converted to Avid?
Greetings

@ Casper, I have not understood your question.

@ Bill C, maybe your problem is due to the opening of S14 after running the batch and before running transplug. Please try again and let me know.

Hello Mary,

Some proDAD plugin are transferred, others not (look here: All About Avid Studio / section "AVID Studio compatibility").

For VitaScene, an upgrade is required (contact AVID). Nevertheless, some users have reported that the copy of the files from S14 to AVID Studio works (copy vitascene-filter.xml and vitascene-transition.xml located in the {...}\Plugins\RTFx folder).

I uninstalled Boris Graffiti and removed the .fex and .xml files from the Plugins directory. I then reinstalled Boris Graffiti 5.2 from DVD. I then copied the .fex and .xml files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio Plugins, and C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio Plugins\Plugins\RTFx, and C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio Plugins\RTFx. In none of those cases was I able to open Avid Studio and identify Boris Graffiti within the system. If this isn't possible, that's ok - just let me know.

Hello Alan,

Did you check in Effects > Filter > Boris ?
Please take note that you should *NOT* install Graffiti from S12 DVD after copying the fex and xml. Install Boris from DVD, and then afterwards you need to copy the file, not the opposite.
It should be possible (to be honnest, we never tried on a new computer, always from S12 to AVID located on the same computer). But are you sure to check in the correct place for Boris Graffiti ? I remember that the first time, I had difficulty to find it in AVID Studio, it's not in a category Boris Graffiti alone, it's in Filter > Effects (and then you find Boris).

I am having the same problem as Alan with Boris Graffiti in Avid Studio.
I have Avid Studio installed on my PC, and the Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate DVD containing Boris Graffiti, but not installed on my PC.
I installed Boris Graffiti to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio Plugins\Plugins" by running the Boris Graffiti setup file. The installer put the BorisFXUI.fex and BorisGraffitiUI.xml files in that folder, and the application in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Boris FX, Inc".
After doing that I cannot see Boris Graffiti within Avid, and do not understand what you mean when you say look in Filter > Effects, do you mean Creative Elements > Effects?
What else do I need to do?

Hello S. Arnold,

Boris Graffiti should be present in the Library, category "Effects" and then a sub-category called "Filter" (inside, you will find Boris Graffiti). It means that Boris Graffiti is not presented alone in the library, but in the effects sub-category, sometimes people do not see it.

Which "installer" are your talking about ? The one described in this article ?

Hello Graham,

Have you checked VitaScene V2: unlocked Studio plugin available (AVID / Pinnacle) ?

The installer I'm using is the \Graffiti\setup.exe file on the "Pinnacle Studio Ultimate plug-in install CD". I believe the installer in the article you refer to is for owners of Pinnacle Studio 14 and is for transferring plug-ins from older versions.

At present, the only items I see under Effects are the standard Avid ones and Red Giant.

It would be nice to have a workflow for installing from this CD onto a PC with only Avid Studio installed. Many thanks.

I've tried this again with some help from some Pinnacle forum assistance. I uninstalled Boris just to start fresh. I installed Boris Graffiti from the Pinnacle Studio 12 disk. This installed Boris Graffiti 5.2.2.1425.

I then copied the two files we discussed earlier (.fex and .xml) from my Studio 12 installation (in this case, restored from my backup) into 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio\plugins\RTFx'. I will say that the rendering is VERY slow. Some folks on the Pinnacle forum recommended upgrading to 5.2.3, but this is no longer available on the Declic site. 5.3.2 is available, but I haven't tried applying that yet.

Thank you Alan,
I didn't do a clean install of Boris Graffiti, but moved the .fex and .xml files to the location you gave (C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio\plugins\RTFx) and it now works as you described.
I recall that when installing Boris the installer said it couldn't find the Pinnacle Studio location and asked me where I wanted to install these files. I chose the wrong place, but now the problem is resolved. Thanks.

Thanks Alan, I'm glad it wasn't just me! However, Boris Graffiti still remains unstable on my PC even after rebooting.
I've also tried a clean install but still the same problem. By the way, when running the installed program (that's the setup.exe file in the Boris Graffiti folder on the CD) it comes up with this message "The plugin directory for Pinnacle Studio was not found. Please select the 'plug-ins' folder in your Pinnacle Studio application path." I chose "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\Studio\plugins\RTFx" but although Graffiti was visible as soon as I started Avid Studio, it remains almost unusable.
Sometimes Graffiti works, but most times Avid just freezes after I press the Apply button. Perhaps the version of Graffiti supplied with PS12 is simply too out of date? Do you know if we can we get an update without paying?

Unfortunately, without paying it's not possible... Otherwise we would have informed you. The only solution currently is the one described by Alan, or to buy the plugin with the explanations in this article....
