It is interesting to note that the Paul Holtz Video compares Version 15 to 16 and NEVER mentions Avid Studio 1 not even once . He also indicates that there is NO older material " transfer " available in the new addition !
Some of the new additions and corrections are useful assets and greatly appreciated !
When you do your testing I hope you will do it with ShuttlePro and provide answers as to its suitability ?

Anyone wanting to upgrade will have a new learning curve.
Those already using Avid Studio have an advantage.
64 bit platform and use of video GPU will be a definite advantage.
Funny, we get a faster operating system, faster editing program and then slow it down with number crunching hi def. Should fly using SD !!
No mention of "Smart Sound". I hope they haven't dropped it again. I have over 200 albums and I use then extensively.

I eagerly await your review.

Not sure I like the idea of not being able to use my old pro DAD stuff (adorage) may have to download the trial version and try it

ShuttlePro perfectly works with Pinnacle Studio 16.
SmartSound too.
All proDaD stuff that worked in AS1 is still working in Pinnacle Studio 16.

Welcome back Pinnacle :)
Thank to Corel for they didn't kill Pinnacle.
And i saw Pinnacle ver.16 is 64bit version, so how about our old plug-ins (ProDAD Heroglyph, Vitascene, Adorage Transitions, Magic Bullet, NewBlue, Pixelan, etc All of old plug-ins are 32bit version). Do we still use this plug-ins in Pinnacle Studio ver.16 or Not?
Thank for Any Reply.. :)

PS 16 is a 32 bits application optimized for 64 bits. All plugins that worked for AS1 should work for P16 regardless of how many bits they were coded for.

I currently use Avid Studio, so do I get the Pinnacle 16 ult. upgrade to get back on track with Avid/Pinnacle plug-ins that I already use?
Saturday, September 1, 2012 7:50 AM
All plugins that are ok with AS1 should be ok with PS16. Maybe a little hacking needed becauseinstallation path are no more withe Avid Studio + something but Pinnacle Studio 16 + something

Heroglyph 4 and Vitascene 2 work in Pinnacle Studio 16 I reloaded them and the plugins were identified as Avid Studio 2 ticked them and they work fine. I cant' seem to get Adorage working yet.

Downloaded the Studio 16 free 30 day trial program. It's only the bare bones, but all my plugins from studio 15 including plug ins from 20 cents and declic are there. Basic program has only 4 tracks, but you can use them for anything and combine them. You can have music, sound effects video and text side by side on the same track. My smartSound works perfectly. Haven't tried ProDad stuff yet - have to get some sleep sometime.

So obviously S16 is Avid Studio. Thought there would be a big learning curve, but it's more a matter of knowing where things are grouped. I picked it up in around 3 mins of playing. Certainly can do a WHOLE LOT MORE than the older versions of Studio :-)

Got Adorage working in PS16 downloaded fix and ran it identified PS16 as Avid Studio 2 no problems.
Wednesday, September 5, 2012 3:16 PM
Andy, Which Adorage are you using? I did not get Studio 15, opted for Avid instead. Still using Ado with Studio 10 and 14.I'm running Vista and understand that Hero 4 will not work with Vista...wondering is Ado will ?

As a user of Avid Studio, is there really any incentive to migrate to Pinnacle 16?

I used to use Pinnacle Studio but switched to Avid Studio as I found it considerably better. Is PS16 just AS1 renamed, or is there more to it than that?

Finally, what is the upgrade cost for AS1 users, as I feel we should not need to pay as much as those upgrading from Pinnacle Studio?

Dear friends,

We are preparing a news with comparisons, FAQ, as well as new feature in Pinnacle Studio 16 (thanks to Le Papy - the article is currently under review and translation...)

For proDAD, it's still compatible. More news to come, Le Papy is about to test Heroglyph V4 (from scratch) and he will inform us if he manage to install it easily or not (we will just post a small notice and not a full article).

Videoman, if you only have 4 video tracks, it's because you get the Basic program. If you opt for PLUS or ULTIMATE, you will get much more video tracks. More to come in a FAQ.

S. Arnold, I do not have the details of the price yet, I am waiting an official statement (it's not clear for me). I will publish it as well. PS16 is a little bit more than a rename, since you have new functionnalities, Le Papy has wrote an article on this, to be published next week.

I just installed 16 Ultimate last night.Colors are slightly different and the timeline is reversed,i.e. time code on the bottom of the display.Although my .20 cents montauges showed up, ProDad Mercalli and Vitascene did not. Also a trial download of NewBlueinc Colorfast did not appear.I still have Avid Studio on board, do I need to remove it?For me the major new feature is to be able to save presets of effects.Quite often I need to color balance clips with the same look and I have to write down all the settings, this will help with my consitentcy. It also seems to load faster and it does give all six cores a workout along with the GPU.Once it downloaded, took an hour,it installed in about 45 minutes with no hangups.Do not try multiple downloads, the tutorial install guide and manual are seperate downloads, unless you have a wide bandwidth connection. Here in Alaska cable'hyper net' is slightly faster then dial up.As noted above there are only so many hours in a day , but rendering out a 20 second clip, two transitions, one from a VHS-c and one from a Canon HV20, and color correction and converting one 480I clip, into mpeg 4 HD1440X1080 seemed to take about the same amount of time as Avid STudio, but the final product appeared to look better.Any ideas as to why ProDad didn't show up?I've got e-mails going to ProDad but it's the weekend.I'll let you know what they say, or perhaps one of the many brillant people here knows what I can do. So far another winner for Pinnacle.IMHO

For those (like me!) who can't wait, here are some of the differences I've discovered between Avid Studio 1.1 and Pinnacle Studio 16...

Enhanced tooltips option.
Jump to help or training video.

Information bar that showing selected clip details (show/hide)

Includes Cloud

Timescale is below timeline, which is a good move as otherwise it was possible to zoom instead of moving scubber.
Option to customise toolbar which allows most items to be displayed or hidden.
Option to show/hide navigator and new storyboard view.
snapshot tool on toolbar.
Dynamic length transitions button on toolbar, which allows transition length to be set by where it is dropped onto the timeline.
Dual mode preview window showing source and timeline (sizeable and moveable).
TC repeated at lower left with percentage of movie in view.
Enhanced multiple track trimming to maintain sync. (shows two preview panes).
Filename and duration shown on timeline clips (when view size permits).
Audio Mixer - typed in values for dB works now. Seems to open/close faster too.

Option to show/hide navigator and new storyboard view.

Export to Cloud, so adds Facebook, Vimeo and Box to YouTube.
Disc export includes AVCHD2.
File export adds more options.
Device Export to Apple, Nintendo, Sony PS3 and Sony PSP.

Thanks for reply I am aware of only 4 track in basic. It was the free 30 day download. I was looking to see if there was much difference between AS1 and Studio 16. Cosmetically, I do not see a difference. I do, however see a performance difference - especially with background render being faster than AS1 and a lot faster than Studio 15.
I wait in anticipation for Wednesday to read your report

As promised a ProDad follow up.I sent an e-mail to them on Friday and got a reply today,Sunday, what great customer support. They sent me a set up for each of my plug in's.To videoman, each version of S16 has different features with ultimate giving you the unlimited tracks.

NewBlueinc has fixes for their plug-ins, they are supporting Studio 16.You can copy the .fex and .fxt files from the previous version,Avid Studio in my case, and copy them into the RTFXV2 file of Studio 16. I would advise contacting NewBlueinc. to make sure you get the right instructions.

For plugins (proDAD, etc...), please refer to our new article: Transfer DV transitions and old plugins in Studio 16

Thanks to Le papy, the batch file is doing everything in one shot if you already have a previous version on your computer!

I have purchased Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate but not yet installed it into my Windows 7. I have a large collection of smartsound music that I used for very early versions of Pinnacle and wondered if this will work with Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate? I know scorefitter is incorporated but what about smartsound? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Geoff West.
