SmartSound and Pinnacle Studio 17 SmartSound with Pinnacle Studio 16 or Pinnacle Studio 17, yes we can !

I have to recognize that I love SmartSounds, the royalty free music (much better than Scorefitter, I have to admit...). That's why I had a closer look at SmartSounds recently...

Did you buy SmartSounds previously, and with Studio 16 or Studio 17, you would like to use it ? But you have an error message "The SmartSound plug-in is not properly activated. Please contact the vendor" ? Then, we have the solution... And if you are using previous Pinnacle Studio version, and you have a similar problem, our tutorial will explain you how to solve the problem.

You never bought SmartSounds so far but you would like to buy it ? TWO solutions exists:

  1. SONIC FIRE PRO (full version to edit your music - no plugin version for Studio). We obtained a marvelous 20% discount for a limited duration (until 15 march 2014). Click on the buy link and use the promotionnal code DECLIC20OFF : buy link with 20% discount (~80 $ instead of 100$).
  2. SmartSound Pinnacle Studio plugin only (SONI FIRE PRO free version with limited capabilities). buy link - no discount sorry (~30 $)

What is included with each solution ?

The free version of Sonicfire Pro comes with 5 tracks from the Core Foundations album. The Studio plugin includes the full Core Foundations album, so you get the remaining 5 tracks for a total of 10 tracks. The upgrade to the full Sonicfire Pro includes the full Core Evolution album (10 tracks).

So if you do not purchase anything and just use the free Sonicfire Pro - 5 tracks included (half of Core Foundations album) - but no Studio plugin...
If you purchase just the Studio plugin - 10 tracks included (full Core Foundations album).
If you purchase the plugin and the software upgrade - 20 tracks included (Core Foundations & Core Evolution albums)

Great articles on getting it working in Studio. Smartsound was one of the most requested features for Studio when they stopped supporting it in favor of Scorefitter. Smartsound is great and allows you to create custom music to the length of your video.
While that albums can be costly, wait for the sales they have. That is when I buy. With over 350 albums to choose from, there is music/sounds for just about any application. Indispensable tool in a video editors tool box.

I've been collecting them since the DV500 days. Now, to buy an album is expensive. But on sale, prices are really great. Just so much to choose from!

I have looked at this offering the plugin version for about 30$ from Pinnacle. I don't understand the difference except the price, of course. Please explain the difference between the two offers.

Dear John,
You are right, that was not clear at all... I have just updated our newsarticle following some information I get from SmartSound people, please read it again, and tell me if that's clear or not.

I replied to your email and just noticed that I should not have. The information is much clearer now. I'll go for the whole think and take advantage of the discount.

Maybe not so clear. You say that "1.SONIC FIRE PRO (full version to edit your music and use it within Studio as a plugin). "
I purchased the full version using the coupon link, but I did not get the plugin. Sonicfire Pro 5 - Plugin activation takes me to the site and asks me to pay the 30$. Am I missing something here?

After installing, I checked in Pinnacle 17 and did not find access to Sonicfire.

Sonic Fire Pro is a stand alone program. To use it (and you will be basically using Express Tracks) does require the $30 plugin. I've had SFP for a long time and when Pinnacle stopped Smartsound support in favor of their own Scorefitter (and they were taken to court by Smartsound over this. The programs operate very similar), there was no further development of Scorefitter material. But before you go off and spend the additional $30, wait for another response. With SFP, you can do Mood Mapping with the appropriate software and compose a whole score with "hits", etc. that you can not do with just the plug for $30, Express Tracks. Look at the tutorials on Smartsound's website and you will be exploring the wonderful world of scoring videos.

My comment was about understanding what is written in the description above on this page under point 1. My understanding was that the plugin came with the full version of Sonicfire Pro. If it does not, and this appears to be the case, then the description at point 1 should be changed to state that the plugin is not included and has to be purchased separately if the user does not already have it.

I went through the manual and some of the tutorials. Wow! I did not expect all of that. I can import my video and score it in the program, and in great detail, which is what I wanted but didn't know that it could do all of this. There is a lot more and I am very impressed. This is an excellent purchase! Pinnacle should have stayed with this program as it is far, far superior to Scorefitter.

Maybe to complement the information on this page, a listing of the major attributes would be helpful. The amount of control that one can have over scoring a video or slideshow video is amazing.

Yes, SFP is really awesome! Besides, you also get a free album when you purchase it. With the plugin only, you do not. you just get the plugin. With Pinnacle, you only basically had Express Tracks, not SFP. Still with Express Tracks you can do a lot.
