Thumbnail Studio 18 patch

As promised there is a little over a month, the second patch Pinnacle Studio 18 (Basic PLUS ULTIMATE) is available. All who know a little the meandering development will appreciate the performance. Others can get an idea by reading the message of the marketing Director at Corel in our news : A message from Corel.

--> Click here to download Pinnacle Studio 18.0.2 patch <--

I will not list you all improvements made by this patch but I will list you the most important:

  • SmartSound functionality restored (for 64-bit)

  • Fixed a prominent startup crash (InstBurner.dll)

  • Fixed several other crashes and hangs

  • GoPro import and playback issues fixed

  • Progressive files incorrectly detected as Interlaced

  • Export to Box added to Cloud options

  • Fixed rendering problems with Speed, Blur, 3D Editor effects

  • Fixed audio dropout in projects with Scorefitter audio

And to whet your appetite, here are some improvements in pictures ...

The library is managed by a database. After some manipulations, this database can be corrupted and should be reset. Until now, you had to remove Settings.xml and/or EffectRepository.xmp files . With this new button in the Control Panel, your task will be simplified. Resetting the library

Very good improvement:

  • the separations between clips are thicker;
  • the highlight colors are bright.
Improved visibility of the time line

You are invited to download and quickly install this recapitulative patch (no need to pass the previous patch first). Always work with updated software to avoid encountering bugs already fixed by a patch. You can then verify that the patch is installed:

Verifying the patch installation

And if, trying to create a SmartSound music, you have the message "SmartSound application is not activated properly. Please contact your supplier", do not panic...smiley

  • Close Studio 18.
  • Open Sonic Fire Pro 5 and verify that the Pinnacle plugin is well marked as enabled (HELP / Plug-in Activation / Avid / Pinnacle Studio (Activated).
  • In the HELP menu / Change Serial number / reenter the Sonic Fire Pro 5 key (the same as the above).
  • Open Studio 18 ... laugh

Did the download, but Smartsound still does not work. When the icon is clicked, the SonicFire Pro 5 app opens up, but the music does not apply and the time from the timeline is NOT duplicated in SonicFire. Also getting messages that BlockBuster 2 (test) is ready for download...but when I try, I get a message that the download is unavailable and the only way I can close this oxymoron is to bring up my task manager and closing it that way.

Hello,
I think I have discovered a problem with studio 18 export.

When I used the custom MPEG-4 setting in 17, progressive, 1920x1080, and increased bit rate to max setting (40mb/s), the generated file was looking awesome and reported this in MediaInfo:
Video
ID : 1
Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Format profile : Simple@L3
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
Codec ID : 20
Duration : 37mn 45s
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 32.6 Mbps
Maximum bit rate : 75.9 Mbps

When I encore the same video with Studio 18, MPEG-4 custom, no matter what bit rate I choose, this is what I get; a very low quality export:
Video
ID : 1
Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
Codec ID : 20
Duration : 37mn 45s
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 8 082 Kbps
Maximum bit rate : 17.3 Mbps

@ Jean-Phillippe Lord.
Yes this is a known issue in 64 bitband Corel are aware.
There are still a number of issues to be addressed and many of them will be with the next patch .

Who hoo. My smartsound in S18 64 bit is fully functional :-)

I still can't get Magjic Bullet looks to function. I was hoping there may have been a 32-64 bit fix for this but....... not yet.

@ videoman3857

Thanks a lot. This is good to know.

I must say, I am pretty impressed with the 64 bit S18 version! I have a 37 minutes project that now renders in under 35 minutes... many many titles, effects and transitions. Working on the timeline is FAST, very responsive. This was not the case with 17 once I hit about 30 minutes length.

Also, with 17, the project would not export properly when I hit 4gb file size and I always ended up with a working tmp file I had to rename. Now it completes properly.

Have continued to try & get Pinnacle 18 Ultimate to work on export but everytime if it writes to disc it misses a huge section after about 20 mins of DVD.
This is just straight VHS to DVD nothing complex.
Also it often crashes the program when starting Creating Disc Image.
A NLE is useless if it won't export Coral really need to sort these problems out.

Have now completley reinstalled Windows 7.1. Am using an Nvidia Quatro 2000 Cuda GPU.And all it does is crash on basic export with VHS tape.
No way can it be anything to do with the set up on my computer.

@Ian, the problem is specific to YOUR hardware. Nothing Pinnacle can do until you sort that out yourself. I edit just fine.
Suggest you go to the Pinnacle Forum and post your question there.
Be precise on your computer specs (not Win7 and Nvidia). Include your CPU, RAM, etc...
Also the source of your video.
Your project settings and export settings.

You will not get your problem solved here. But maybe in the User Forum.

I've had Avid Studio & no problem with export. I've also got other programs I've used. Again no problem.
So don't tell me it's my computer.
I've tried contacting Pinnacle vie their technical section. That truly is a joke. As yet I've had no reply. So I don't know what the forum will be like.
As for the computer it comes up & passes the requirements they say I need.
And remember, I'm not asking for any flash multi track, special effects DVD. Just plain old VHS to DVD.
Also posting it here let's others know what a bad produce this. And avoid it until Pinnacle sort their mess out.

@Ian. Because you have a problem, I guess it's systemic to everyone? Sorry, but it isn't. It's a problem that is specific to you and your system. I edit fine with it. So do others.
I suggested the forum as an alternative to getting help from
Corel, which is hit or miss. It is up to you if you want it.
I tell people there is a, I believe 30 day refund, no questions asked. Try if you want. If it isn't your "cup of tea" get your money back. Simple.
But to say it's bad because you are having problems with it is disingenuous on your part. You do not represent others who are not having your problems.
Question, is Avid Studio 64bit program?
I understand frustration, but shouting here is not going to get Pinnacle to notice. But being respectful and posting your problems in the user forum might..... just a thought if you really want to see if there is a solution.....

Ian, I understand your frustration. I also suggest you try the Pinnacle Forum - there's a lot of people there who have extensive knowledge that can help. - and Corel/Pinnacle do check this site.
Studio18 is a new 64 bit program and it is bound to have glitches. All other versions of Studio are 32bit. There will be missing drivers and codec etc in the 64 bit version - it's modern, it is not cluttered with old stuff. If you want VHS to DVD then stay with Avid studio - you know it works. I use Studio18 - no problems. I have 32 bit plugins that came and work with Studio15. I use it when I want these specific effects.
There is always a workaround
