I guess you didn't read the entire web page of effectsWIZ.com !

I simply quote their explanations :

To add alpha wipes, first you must place the transition in the appropriate folder. In Windows XP, the folder for the alpha wipes is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Pinnacle\Content\Alpha Magic. In Windows Vista, the folder is: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Pinnacle\Content\Alpha Magic.

Then it's necessary to clear the effects cache so the program will find the effect. In XP, delete EffectCache.* and EditorCache.* in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 12\Programs\Plugins\RTFx. In Windows Vista, delete EffectCache.* and EditorCache.* in the folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 12\Programs\Plugins\RTFx. There is no danger in deleting these files as they're recreated when you re-launch the program.

Hello Mary,

Normally it should be the same. I am not running Windows 7 currently, I will do so in the future as explained in our recent news. You might try to ask the question on forums, but I do not see any reason why it should not work with Seven. It's the same. Have you followed all recommandations and applied the same technic to install them ? Keep us informed,

I have downloaded the jpg files and inserted them into the Alpha Magic folder as instructed and deleted the effects and editor cache (in both Studio 11 and 12 folders). I did a search for those folders and also deleted the copy that was in the studio programme folders. I can't however see the new transitions in studio. I have spent ages doing searches trying to find out other things to try but no luck.

I am on win 7. After a bit of searching on my pc I found the this folder pinnacle/studio/plugins/rtfx/aplahmagicxml in here there is an xml file for every transition that came with studio but not the new ones.

Also there is a bitmap image in that folder that shows all the default transitions. I moved this elsewhere and reloaded studio and found that studio had used the images from the 2D transitions (there were not enough so the rest were black). I put the image back again but for me it established that there must be something else that needs doing to get the transitions to show. However I have no idea what that would be and was hoping someone else would!

thanks!

ok sorted so here are instructions for Win 7 users & studio 12 users.

Close Studio and do not reload until process finished.

1) copy the the images into the folder users/public/public documents/pinnacle/content/alpha magic

2) delete editorcache.* and effectscache.* from users/public/public documents/pinnacle/program files (x86)/pinnacle/studio 12/programs/plugins/rtfx

3) delete contents of this folder 'program files (x86)/pinnacle/studio 12/plugins/rtfx/AlphaMagicXML' HOWEVER do not delete a file called Alpha Magic Colours as I found when I did this that the preview icons had a green tinge!

3) change User Account Control setting (type UAC in search box from windows icon if you don't know how to access) to never notify (lowest setting)

it doesn't matter which order you do the above but it is very important that you then reboot your PC as I did take this vital step and following the above did not work for me until I did

4) after reboot restart pinnacle and your new alpha magic wipes should be there.

I will now reset UAC to default setting but I must remember to change it back (and reboot) whenever I want to add new wipes!

Well on the page with the instructions EffectsWiz does not cover Win 7, only XP and Vista. There is no mention of deleting AlphaXML folder contents on the instructions (tutorial) page however in the EffectsWiz forum someone mentions AlphaXML but they could not get the transitions to work either (presumably because they had not changed UAC settings).

I picked up the UAC setting adjustment from an old post on the Pinnalce Forums (I updated that site as well) - there is no mention of that on the EffectsWiz site.

The reboot wasn't mentioned anywhere.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I have now upgraded to Avid Studio and the transitions do not appear in Avid. I have posted a question on the Avid Forum hoping there is some way of sorting this.

Julie,

We are working on a way to transfer all previous content to AVID Studio (for Pinnacle Studio, it should not pose any problem)....

DV FX
PS: The tool will be released today, maybe alpha magic are still missing, but should be available in few days as soon as Le Papy has finished.

Hello, I know the batch file has been done but I did not think it transferred the alpha wipes as there is no mention of them on the page for the batch file. however in the following post on the AS forums it says the alpha wipes have been transferred (post by papawupa) 2/4/11

so my questions are:-

is it correct that the alpha wipes are transferred

what about new alpha wipes that are created (after the batch file run) - how can I get them to show in AV?

thanks

@ Julie: unfortunately, we have no solution to transfer the alpha transition so far... We are still working to find a solution. I think that papawupa is talking about something else....
I have asked AVID how to include a new alpha effect in AS, answer is: "currently impossible to transfer alpha transition"....

Concerning proDAD, the official solution is to buy the new plugin to have it working with Avid Studio...

PS: As a reference for those who are wondering how to transfer plugin into Avid Studio, please read: Transfer into Avid Studio your old plugins still functional

Thanks for your quick response. Very disappointing response from Avid. I can't see why they can't make it easy to add an alpha wipe - I like making my own from images I have seen with great patterns.

I am awaiting an email from Avid sometime in april as I purchased Herogylph and Adorage separately so according to their website I am entitled to the email with instructions on what to do. but that is another story! I assume though that your comment is in response to the message from papawupa about Vitascene.

thank you for your efforts on this.

The alpha magic effects downloaded from effectswiz .com in Pinnacle stidio 14 did not transfer to Avid studio. I had 242 alpha magic effects in PS14 and only 112 of them transferred to Avid?

Hello,

So far, I had no answer from David Lawson, its ownership.
I sent an email again. I found that the website registration is ending beginning of december 2012... Rather soon !!!

I will keep you posted, I asked if we can provide the files to our users. Do not hesitate to send a reminder should I not reply in 1-2 week.
