We have received several inquiries from users as to whether it was possible and how to do it ... The question is basic and if you read the documentation, the answer is very simple. There's not any explanations, just simply open the "File" menu and click on the sub-menu "Import previous Pinnacle Studio Projects". But before we go any further, I wanted to see for myself...

Many users have purchased the PE CameraPOV plugin from Pinnacle. Unfortunately, this plugin that is very useful for those who have it, is no longer supported by newer versions of Studio.. Do not fret any longer as we will try to fill the void left by this unusable plugin by using other means at our disposal in the new versions of Studio.

Recently in a news article I told you : "This tutorial is the latest in a series that has helped you gradually discover the wealth of possibilities in the AVID Studio title editor.". This was without taking into consideration the insight of some of our readers ... One of you wants to combine several motion effects in the same title and would like to know if this is possible. My first answer was yes because I had already done some testing of this possibility. But then, I had to dig a little deeper to support my answer and why not add a little more.

The ProDAD Adorage plug-in offers many transitions and effects. But this plug-in uses predefined titles for its effects. You may prefer "Happy Birthday Barbara" rather than just "Happy Birthday". If you look closely, you would see that proDAD itself prompts you to replace existing titles with your own title. But it leaves it to you to do so without giving you more information...

We have already published several tutorials about creating end credits. Probably, one of the oldest is the tutorial "Closing credits: Star Wars" because it was already on the old Declic-Video site. That tutorial used the 3rd party plugin JPs Effects. Other tutorials were created later on, based on other ideas and/or new software. Recently a tutorial that uses only Pinnacle Studio Ultimate (V14 or above) was published. So this time it's Avid Studio (or new Studio versions) that does all the work.

It is not difficult to permanently change any preset and just as easy to create a new preset with its thumbnail library. This tutorial will show you how to do.

From the first use of Avid Studio, one must admit that we are in a totally different environnement from that of Pinnacle Studio 1-15. But we are not too much disoriented, because a majority of the known elements are there. Except that during first editing, one may ask the question: "where's the little checkmark indicating the use of a clip in the current movie? ". This is in order to solve this problem that I suggest you to discover this tutorial.

With the arrival of Avid Studio and new Studio versions, it was necessary to face the facts, the good old recipes do not work anymore because the alpha channel method for tga buttons used with Pinnacle Studio 1-15 was no longer compatible with that used by Avid Studio and new Studio versions.
Aficionados of custom buttons then reached out to the people on the Pinnacle forum to see if anyone knew how ... Alas, the answers were evasive, even demoralizing. Along with Francis57, we searched on our own to try to find a solution to the challenge. Thus, two different approaches were pursued in parallel and resulted in two methods to achieve similar results. By mutual agreement, we decided to show them both to you. This tutorial consists of two independent processes and you can address them separately.

Avid Studio and new Studio versions come with many transitions and many plugins ready to use. But the beautiful HD "Movie" transition did not quite satisfy my needs. So I decided to change it in my own unique way and share it with you. Two things had me leaning this way : opening and closing the red curtain in front of an empty room bothered me a little and I wanted to start my video with a beautiful opening curtain, not a transition.

I have given you the opportunity to learn Mercalli Easy in the "Getting Started with Mercalli EASY" tutorial. I wanted to step it up a notch by giving you the added element of choice and appreciation. Mercalli Easy is extremely easy to use since most everything is fully automated but this is not the case with Mercalli V2, which it would pay to get a better grip on because it is you who controls the software. But with a little effort, greater results are waiting for you. And when you know that there are primarily just two important parameters and the rest is only adjustments, your natural apprehension should fade.

The latest addition to the family of stabilizers proDAD range happened. In 2008, right out, I quickly opted for the purchase of the first stabilizer Mercalli plugin Studio, because I'm not a good cameraman and parasite movements during the shooting did not improve the quality of my rushes. It is therefore natural that I wanted to try Mercalli Easy to share with you my findings.

But this tutorial is the first that does not use any external plugin and uses only what is available to every owner of Pinnacle Studio Ultimate (V14 or above).

To be honest with you, I prefer to locate a scene with a visual cue rather than a title, it's more sophisticated. Of the options available to you, there is one that can be done with your video, the entry or exit road sign of the town. But if you did not film with this plan in mind, you are missing the needed parts and you now have a chance to make up for your oversight.

You know that the Boris Graffiti styles palette is very broad. It includes many fonts, many colors, gradients, and various motifs and you can make any kind of title. But one of our readers would like a transparent title ... No, this is not a joke ...

Why not introduce your editing with a small muscular sequence to set the tone? This tutorial may be made for you. I suggest introduce your movie with a little "show" harbinger of imitating the generic "CSI: Miami '®. This tutorial is very simple and is also for beginners (Pinnacle Studio or new Studio version).

It's the simple story of a conversation between friends. Recently a friend had wanted to customize a menu. He finished most of the work but then ran into a little problem at the last minute. To troubleshoot the problem, I had made some screenshots ... and now that these screenshots are made, why not share them with you?

Rotations and pivots aren't seen very often in HFX software. I have long wondered why these parameters were used so little and I think I have found the answer. I am therefore going to review the use of these parameters in detail in order for you to understand them and show how you can use them once you understand their properties.

For me, Studio 14 and Studio 15 have taken a step back in terms of DVD player compatibility. Discs produced by S12 play back fine on an old player I own, but if I make an identical project in S14/S15, the player doesn’t seem to recognise the menu structure correctly and refuses to play some or even all of the chapters. I propose in this tutorial to explain how avoid this bug by using ImgBurn.

We have already published many HFX effects that employ multiple screens. These four new effects have the common trait of containing a frame for each view. By design, the frame of each view is black but it's very easy to change it to a white frame depending on the dominant color of the images.

In a previous tutorial (adaptation of an existing Boris Graffiti effect into a text transition), we saw how to create a text transition effect starting from an existing effect in the Library Browser of Boris Graffiti. Now, I will show you how to create a text transition effect from scratch. Creating this effect won't take very long and it is not difficult, but it does require a good knowledge of keyframe manipulation that we detailed in our previous tutorials.

You know the principle of most Boris Graffiti effects : an effect reveals in one way or another a text on the screen and makes it disappear in the same reverse way or otherwise. In its library, "Library Browser", Boris Graffiti also features 8 effects "Animated text transitions". These effects show a first text, make it disappear then display a second text to finally make it disappear. Such an effect is actually a transition between two texts but can also be likened, in some cases, to morphing.

These effects are interesting and some of our readers would like to include them in their editing but they wonder with what software they can do it. I thought our Studio could do most of the work of course...

The keyframes in HFX allow animation of the different objects in the effect. There are three types of keyframes : the linear keyframes, the spline curve keyframes and the value jump keyframes. The user guide of the software describes very well these types of keyframes, their use, saving and using of different envelopes with single value or multiple values. Furthermore, our tutorials already published on this page have already explored some concepts around keyframes and envelopes. This tutorial discusses the three types of key frames and more particularly an aspect undocumented : the parameters of curve keyframes.

On several occasions, we have made freely available files. GRF in our Download-Tutorials page.
Each time, I had stated in the tutorial : "This file contains no preview or animation, unlike files. GRF that are provided in the library of Boris Graffiti. It is therefore not advisable to copy in the library of Boris Graffiti, you would have neither the preview nor the animation of the effect". So this tutorial will allow you to create your own preview and your animations in order to include your effects in the library of Boris Graffiti.

Files with the extension .3GP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) are compressed video for third-generation mobile phone (3G). Today, with new versions of Studio you can import and export video files .3 GP. But this has not always been the case and DGrenier had proposed a tutorial, taken in part below, to accomplish this with the studio versions below Studio 12 who could not import these file types. As we still have many readers that use versions prior to Studio 12, we offer an retrospective overview of treatment of these files.

The auxiliary files, sometimes called temporary, sometimes secondary files are created by Studio, in different circumstances, when editing or exporting a project. These files are saved in a specific folder. The auxiliary files can grow quite large and cause various disturbances in exporting your projects. These auxiliary files can be deleted at any time during your editing for Studio will recreate them automatically when you work on the project.

There is something that we have never discussed in our tutorials. That is cloning. Rest assured we will not carry out any type of genetic manipulations. We'll take the word cloning in the sense of a programming language: "Cloning is the process of duplicating an instance of an object. You already know that the HFX effect usually consists of several objects. Under certain circumstances, it is necessary to have several copies (or instances) of the same object in the HFX tree. Instead of creating copies one by one, it is possible to select an object and then clone it X number of times to get X identical objects in one transition.

On several occasions I had the opportunity to explain that the plugin Boris Graffiti integrated in Studio does not allow to map an image on a text. By forcing Studio to work with Boris Graffiti, I had demonstrated in a tutorial they could still do so. This stage reached, it was the final step, namely to get a map image or a video on an object. He had to go to the obvious : it was not possible. Not possible, unless you happen to find a tip...

In various forums that we frequent, users often report incidents that they attribute to Studio ! In fact, after expertise, those problems have to be attributed to causes entirely unrelated to the editing software. If we exclude the issues of graphics cards and their drivers, poor management or lack of PC maintenance are present in the top 10 incidents that concern us.
Therefore Rémy Fehlmann has developed a list of recommendations to follow to get the best possible performance on your machine.

At the very beginning when we tested the Boris Graffiti plugin, we noticed that it was impossible to use one feature mentionned by the user manual: it is impossible to map an image onto a 3D text extrusion because Studio does not support this feature. I told myself that one solution should exist.... Here it is !

Studio 14 and Studio 15 in their Ultimate Collection version, has been equipped with various plugins from Red Giant. Among these, Trapcode 3DStroke, which is a graphics generator in the form of lines moving in three dimensions. Of course, it is a lighter version of the plugin for us. But many parameters allow us to modify it at will.
The purpose of this tutorial is to explain them and show you we can go further.

I suggest in this tutorial to discover this new tool.

One of our faithful readers and friends, Serge Gastineau is the source of the spark that gave rise to this tutorial. On a famous forum, he regretted the lack of tracks in a studio, and in particular he said that simply overlay a logo on a video mobilized the title track for the duration of the video... and it was not entirely wrong !
I saved this phrase in an area of my cerabral hard disk and time doing his work ... this tutorial was created.

With this special effect, created solely to save the existing tracks of Studio, you can insert a logo in your entire editing, insert titles, still titles, rolling or crowling titles, overlay images ... To perform all these operations, together or separately, this effect uses only one track : Studio video track. It lets available the title and overlay track.
Finally, it can troubleshoot some users who are not blessed with a version of Studio to insert rolling or crowling titles.
It is designed to be fully configured by the user and this tutorial is designed to give you all the tricks possible to achieve.

The Studio software uses several plugins. One of the oldest, if not the oldest, is certainly Hollywood FX. Studio in version 12, came with the Boris Graffiti plugin. Then, using Studio 12 and the two plugins mentioned, I made a small unassuming clip, just to show you how we can bring together these three elements to integrate a time code in a video which itself is then included in another video.

A few months ago a user wanted Studio 12 to insert a counter in his video. He did not know what to do and asked the question on the forum. At that time, I did not yet know enough about Boris Graffiti to offer a "Graffiti" solution. Fortunately, at the time others had been able to properly advise the poster of a few choices of plugins that were available for download on the Internet.
Today, this is what I would have advised him if I had already had the time to dig into Boris Graffiti ...

Sometimes you will see a transition in Hollywood FX that you really like but you would like to change the text.
Only HFX won’t let you change the text.
The reason for that is that the “text” is not really text after all. It is in fact an object that looks like text and therefore the individual letters cannot be changed. It would be the same, for example, as having a picture of a coffee cup and saying you want to change it to the words “Coffee Cup”.
This tutorial will explain the steps needed to remove the object(s) and replace it with text that is editable.

Today, I will talk to you about creating a scrolling credit. You know the vertical one that you usually see towards the end of the film?
You think that Title Deko already makes one that way and you are absolutely right. But the credits that I am suggesting are somewhat out of the ordinary and have some features that Title Deko cannot make. In particular, these credits will not be centered, will be on a colored rectangular background with rounded corners, will not emerge from the bottom of the screen and will disappear before the top of the screen and finally, it will include a blurred area at the beginning and end of the text.

If you are using the 064-news transition that is in our free HFX, then thank André JOUBERT who created it and the guide which accompanies it. The success of this transition has gone beyond the limits of the European continent, because an English speaking friend has asked us to make some improvements. They have spawned two adaptations of this transition: 064-news2 and 064-news3.

I was inspired by the Montage Themes and this will allow me to show you, once again, the things that you can accomplish by using these two complimentary programs.
Moreover, as one can not directly import HD clips into the Easy FX Editor, this trick might also enable me use HD video while using the HFX Effect and Easy FX Editor from Studio 12.
I am not about to tell you that my little tinkering can replace the Montage Themes. So quit dreaming but enjoy yourself anyway ..

With your Studio 12 version, you may have discovered the integrated plugin Magic Bullet Look in Ultimate. At first glance it is easy to use, especially after reading the English documentation. Nevertheless, some users requested a tutorial... We searched the hidden resources of this plugin and we have summarized the essential functions. Finally, the only advantage in doing this presentation is that it will save you some time, but in any case we do not think that hope to teach you something.

On this strip, two pieces, one on the left and one on the right side of the screen will join at the center of the screen. All of this text, consisting of two pieces, will then disappear to the right of the screen. Of course this does not exist in the Boris graffiti library, this is YOUR effect...

When you hear this word, Ripples, generally speaking you think about ripples in the water. But since the introduction of Studio this word is also known in video editing. The ‘rippling’ function is designed to place the same identical transition between a number of continuous clips or photographs on the time-line.
Depending on the version, the interface is different and the mode of application changes slightly but the principle remains. This tutorial helps you to move easily from older versions to the new Studio versions.

Having two different scenes in one video is possible, by making a PIP (picture in picture). Just follow our tutorial and you will discover that this is an opportunity to showcase your editing in a different way ... Take note that most recent Pinnacle Studio version already include a PIP tool. Nevertheless, it does not include all flexibility allowed by HFX (parametersdes modification, tilting view, key framing, ...). For example, you can add multiple PIP window with this HFX technic....

If you have gotten Studio 12 Ultimate, you must add the Boris Graffiti plug-in included in the video effects. Graffiti is more than just a titler. Obviously it can make static and animated titles of all types, both 2D and 3D, but it can also add filters, film that burns, writing styles like Star Wars, ripple effects, spirals, ... In short, many things.

Studio's preferred music format is .WAV so it is strongly advised to convert your music CD's to WAV files (Rip CD) instead of using the Studio CD Import function. This can be accomplished with the well known CDEx utility. This Tips & Tricks will explain how to proceed so there is no more need to insert CD's after deleting Auxiliary Files (as Studio needs to recreate the related Auxiliary Files), useful instant access to any music, and no risk of crash related issues. If you are using new Studio version, the above recommendation becomes a requirement.
