To be honest with you, I prefer to locate a scene with a visual cue rather than a title, it's more sophisticated. Of the options available to you, there is one that can be done with your video, the entry or exit road sign of the town.
So if you have carefully followed the advice of experts, pre-planned your scenario, and you have written down your plan or have it all in your head: then be on your way, this tutorial will not interest you.

But if you did not film with this plan in mind, you are missing the needed parts and you now have a chance to make up for your oversight.

Step 1 :Video is better ...
Your original plan or your zoomed photo

Fixing the mistake as best as we could ...

Step 2 : Using the 342-agglomeration plugin

This 342-agglomeration plugin is a free HFX effect available on our free HFX page. Before downloading, you can preview this effect on the downloading page.

It is fully customizable: city, lane, in or out of town.

Here, for example, is what you can easily get with just a few mouse clicks.

Les possibilités du plugin

Step 3 : Configuring the plugin

The FX tree is quite long but only four points need to be addressed.

  1. "RouteD" and "RouteN" Objects. These will determine the yellow or red colored background for the name of the road. By default, the plugin comes with RouteD in yellow (parameter of the RouteD object fade set to 0 so the yellow object is visible).
    To change the background color of the name of the lane to red, simply select the RouteN object and change the value of this fade parameter from 100 (transparent) to 0 (Visible). This covers the yellow color with red.

    Le paramétrage du fondu
  2. "Barre rouge" (Red Bar) Object. It is this object that shows or hides the red slash over the city name. By default, it is a city entrance sign, so the red slash is transparent. To change the city entrance sign to the exit city road sign, just change the value of this objects fade from the 100 (transparent) to 0 (Visible).

    Le paramétrage du fondu
  3. "DECLIC-VIDEO" Object. This object contains a "Text3D" you can edit and replace with the actual name of the city. If the name of the town does not fit into the panel, you can:
    • decrease the font size or;
    • expand the size of the "Maître localité" (City Panel) object;
    to keep your text in the panel.

    Le paramétrage de la largeur du panneau

  4. D 302 Object. This object contains a "Text3D" you can edit and replace with the actual name of the road.

Step 4 : Incorporating the plugin in Studio

The incorporation of this plugin will be made in Studio using "HFX Filter".

If you use Pinnacle Studio 1-15, refer to our tutorial "Simulating rain (transition #245)" to see an example of using "HFX Filter".

If you use Avid Studio or a new Studio version, it will be slightly different and you do this:

Le choix du plugin "HFX Filter"
The "HFX Filter" plugin is classified by default as a 2D-3D effect. Drag your clip or image to the timeline.
Ouverture de l'éditeur des effets
Double-click the clip to open the effects editor. This window allows you to open Hollywood FX by pressing the "Edit" button.
L'éditeur Hollywood FX

Your effect is then selected and we need to just position it and/or resize it.

  1. Select the "Maître panneau" (Master Panel) that controls all of the objects in this effect;
  2. You can change the position of the panel by changing the X and Y position parameters;
  3. You can resize the panel by dragging the X, Y and Z sliders or entering numbers directly.

Remember to press the "OK" button to return to Studio by leaving plenty of time to assimilate the plugin ... and save your settings in your movie.

So, be careful not foolish, the back roads are yellow and national are red...

But I think reading this tutorial will prevent you from forgetting the essential plan your next trip.

This 342-agglomeration plugin is a free HFX effect available on our free HFX page. You say this and when I download it and install it tells me install complete and it doesn't go anywhere and I can't find it anywhere including the HFX plug in for AVID STUDIO. STEP 2 just starts without telling me how to get to step 2. If it is already in HFX plugin for AVID STUIDO then where is it inside HFX plugin? Please help because I really want to use this!

Hello Justus,

Sorry, I did not understand your problem when you first ask. I assume that you only have AVID Studio installed, correct ??
In such case, you are a good candidat for some tests (usually, people have Pinnacle Studio + AVID Studio; therefore, people usually apply our bath file which transfer HFX from Pinnacle to AVID).

If you only have AVID, then it's normal that you do not see the HFX effect ! We will get in touch with you, through email.

Nevertheless, regarding this tutorial, you should be able to apply the HFX filter as explained in Step 4, and selecting the HFX you just installed. Keep us informed,

DV FX
