Just after the first opening of Avid Studio or new Studio versions, it is easy to see that the environment is strongly modified compared to the one of Pinnacle Studio 1-15.
After some experimentations, I began to feel at ease, I found the effects, the transitions, the plugins, the titles, etc....
The first curiosities satisfied, it was time fo me to start editing a movie.

And, at this step appeared the little something that troubled my habits !

The report !

Thus, I created my first movie project.
After opening my media, proceeded to scene detection, I began dropping the first clips onto the timeline.

At this step I was satisfied and not unsettled, until I tried to identify clips that I had used.

In Pinnacle Studio, a small checkmark on the thumbnail of the scene means its use in the current edit.

Pinnacle Studio
With Avid Studio, nothing similar!
A fast look into the user guide and, unfortunately it is necessary to admit the facts, it is not implemented! But new Studio versions now shows this brand of used clip.
Avid Studio
A solution ! Use the library and tags.

So I started to discover some features of Avid Studio and new Studio versions, mainly in the library and tags.
Thanks to certain messages during my manipulations, and after some tinkering I finished to lead to a similar situation, and even a little more.
As in our favorite forum I noticed that I was not the only one to regret this omission, I ventured to write this little tutorial.
You will discover :

  • The creation of personal collections in the library
  • The transfer of elements from other collections to this collection created (Transitions, effects, scenes, etc....)
  • The creation and use of tags
  • Applying filters to these tags

The tutorial can be found below in the form of a video.

Conclusion

Some people will say rightly that the solution, to find what was automatic in Pinnacle Studio, is heavy.
But we have to admit that in Avid Studio it is missing! Not being in the secret, I can not predict whether a next version or patch will fix the solution, but as one say: "Hope is vital".

Actually new Studio versions have regained marks used clip.

I just hope to have responded partly to some expectations with this video tutorial.
I want to thank Le Papy, who assisted me in my first steps during the creation of this tutorial.

Very well done, it just shows how the old tick in Pinnacle saved a lot of work and time. Just hope Avid takes note.
