The ProDAD Adorage plug-in offers many transitions and effects. But this plug-in uses predefined titles for its effects. You may prefer "Happy Birthday Barbara" rather than just "Happy Birthday". If you look closely, you would see that proDAD itself prompts you to replace existing titles with your own titles in the Adorage-GfxDatas folder. But it leaves it to you to do so without giving you more information. In the following tutorial I will try to explain how to do it.

Note: Depending on the Adorage volume and operating systems, the folder Adorage-GfxDatas can be placed under C: \ Program Files \, or C: \ ProgramData \ proDAD \ Adorage \, or C: \ Program Files (x86) \
You can find additional information regarding proDAD Adorage as well as demo video for Adorage volumes and a special discount to purchase the product on our dedicated page.

Step 1 : The Existing Situation
Le plugin tel qu'il est livré

Volume 10 contains a number of predefined titles ...

  1. Select the volume you want;
  2. Look at ways to customize the effects. For this tutorial, I chose a selection of three effects "Happy Birthday01" to "Happy Birthday03".

Les 3 effets "Happy Birthday"

These three effects use the same "birthday2.tif" image located in the Adorage-GfxDatas folder. The same image can be used as a clipping mask or as an Alpha file mask. Mask image files are generally 1920x1080 pixels in size. You will soon see that you can create more images of the same size, with the same background using a font that is essentially the same size and the same color.

Step 2 : Creating a Custom Title

To get the image to fit your needs, you can choose between:

  • Image editing software commercially available;
  • Free software (PaintNet- GIMP) for which we have already done several tutorials and in particular for basic use in the "Customize Your DVD Menu Buttons with Studio" tutorial;
  • Developed software or word processing software or video plug-ins that you have already paid for (Studio and it's titles editor, Boris Graffiti ...). In this case, you need to cheat a bit by copying and pasting screenshots, but I can guarantee that you can get very good results.

To simplify the process, I'll use the free GIMP that you should already know something about.

  1. From the "File" menu;
  2. Select "New Image";
  3. Set to 1920x1080 pixels;
  4. Open the advanced options;
  5. Choose a white background;
  6. Create.
Création dune image vierge
  1. Select the text tool to create a text layer;
  2. Left click once on the image to the upper left corner location of your future text;
  3. This click will open the text editor window;
  4. Enter your text on a line or two and check the "Use selected font";
  5. Select your font (Bold EucrosialUPC lends itself well to this application);
  6. Select 600 for the size;
  7. Choose the color black;
  8. Click center justification to center your text in your input window;
  9. Resize and center your text on the page using the resize handles (see screenshot below);
  10. Don't forget to finish with a CTRL + S to save your image.
Création d'un calque de texte et du texte correspondant

Choose a name that is similar to the original image name:

  • It will be easier to remember;
  • So it is grouped with the template in the folder.
  • To resemble the Birthday2.tif image I chose Birthday2FR.tif as the backup name.

If you use GIMP, you cannot directly save your image in the correct folder because GIMP does not allow saving in a sub-folder of ProgramData which is a hidden folder. It will then save it to a different folder accessible by GIMP, then you can move it into the correct folder.

Step 3 : Integration of Title in the Adorage-GfxDatas Folder
First of all, you will need to show hidden folders in Windows Explorer (Tools / Folder Options / View / Display files, folders and drives hidden).

Then move your image to the folder: Adorage-GfxDatas \ Name_Adorage_volume \ overlay-image.

Your overlay-image Ado10 folder should now look like this.

Step 4 : Using the Custom Title in Three "Happy Birthday" Effects

My first recommendation is to backup your Adorage configuration. For this, I refer you to the bonus tutorial "Adorage, first visit".

My second recommendation is that you never work on the original effects and only work on clones of these original effects.

To make a clone:

  1. Right-click the effect you want to clone;
  2. Select "Clone effect";
  3. Enter a name for your clone. If possible, follow the format that you previously set and give the clone the same name as your image (optional);
  4. Optionally add a comment;
  5. Click OK to save your clone.
Réalisation d'un clone
Your clone is created with its tooltip containing the text from your comment (#4 above). When this clone is selected, it reproduces exactly the same effect as "HappyBirthday01" with its English title.

But now we are nearing our goal and you are going to replace your English title with a French title to wish a "Joyeux Anniversaire".
La création du clone est achevée

For this "HappyBirthday01" effect, the file to replace is used as a clipping mask and is located in the Overlay tab. To refresh your memory, you can read the tutorial"Depth study of Adorage - Overlay Tab".

Click the "Overlay" from the main window to access the parameters of the cloned effect.

  1. The Overlay tab will be selected;
  2. Click the folder icon under Clipping mask and click on "Select file". The default overlay-images ado10 folder opens and you can open your custom file;
  3. Your customized file will replace the original file.

After clicking "OK" you will be quite pleased to see the result of your work.

But note, after you finish admiring your work, don't forget to right click on your clone and select "Insert effect" to save your effect with your custom title.

Substitution du fichier TIF dans le volet Superposition
Step 5 : Variations with Another Effect

HappyBirthday01 and HappyBirthday03 effects use the image as a clipping mask in the Overlay tab. On the other hand, the HappyBirthday02 effect uses the image as an alpha mask file in the Mixer tab. To refresh your memory, you can read the tutorial "Depth study of Adorage - Mixer Tab." But the procedure is exactly the same, just substitute your custom alpha mask image file in the Mixer tab.

Almost all variations can be done with the text, font, and color.

You can easily get the following result:

Step 6 : Bonus for christmas !

If you are not familiar with software design or image editing, I am offering to create an individualized title (3 lines), with the title of your choice, to the first five French language users and the first five English language users who:

  • Have been subscribers to our free Newsletter for over a month;
  • Make the request using the "Comments section" of this tutorial (your name and email will stay anonymous);
  • We will contact you discreetly (with the email provided in the email box) for the desired custom title.

So if you are not yet listed in our Newsletter, it is not too late ... The offer will remain valid until 5 applications have been received from each language...

Do not hesitate to ask, and you will not have to do it...
