General remarks regarding Easy FX Editor.

Hollywood FX 5.X / 6.x are in two versions: PLUS and MEGA. The name MEGA has replaced the old PRO, which is only used for Liquid Edition. The name change from PRO to MEGA has no effect on functionality.

Screen-view:

When you look at the picture, you see that the main screen has been changed.
In the Left upper half (2) you find the instruments (turning buttons and sliders) to shape the effects.
Under that you see (4) the tree structure of objects and parts out of which the effect has been built. One of the improvements is the pre-screen (3). In here you can choose from various combinations of angles. In the screen dump you see the top- and side view, the perspective and the final result.
In the Album the folder structure (5) gives you access to the different effects (6) objects and other tools. The ‘’Envelope Editor’’ (see the picture here-under) can be made visible with the button (7). The Album will be hidden.

"The Envelope Editor"

We will now look further into the various parts:

The Property-panel

The property-panel is perhaps the most important part of the user interface. In this panel generally speaking, you can change properties of objects (of parts thereof) in 4 different ways.

  1. By means of turning buttons
  2. By means of sliders
  3. By selecting or deselecting a specific option
  4. In most cases you can add exact values with the keyboard.
Sometimes properties can also be selected from a choice-list.

The pre-screen.

The Pre-screen has two functions. In the first place you
can see what the effect will be and what the positions
of the various parts are. The latter you can see in three
different views. The beautiful thing is, that in this new
version all views can be seen simultaneously. You can
change the Lay-out of the Pre-screen by choosing one
of the default views (1)
Just like in version 4.6 you can also preselect (2) whether
you want to see the real video images, the begin frame
or a letter / figure view. The choice is made by the hard-
ware you are using (cpu and graphical card)

The FX-tree.

In the FX-tree you can see how the effect has been made with various parts.

When you click on camera (1), you have the ability to change starting point, the viewing angle and a number of light options.
To change the properties of objects (2) you can click on the name of the object, right beside the cube. Each object has one or more planes (3) And each plane can be re-adjusted, p.e. by adding a video-image (4)

The Album

The Album is the place where you can choose the effect. At the lefthandside of the Album you can see a tree-structure, which is similar with the folder-structure of Hollywood FX on your hard disk. At the right-hand side you can see the contents of the map.

Except for ready-made effects, you can also find separate parts, of which you can make new effects or change existing effects. You can find here all the different plug-in filters (including chromakey) and a 3D-text editor. You can also add various light sources.

The Envelope-Editor.

The Envelope-Editor becomes visible, when you click on . When you have started the HFX Editor from within Studio, you will see that the timescale is copied from the Studio-timescale. That was not the case in the previous version. You can also zoom into the vertical axis of the timeline. As a result you can work more precisely.

For each Key-frame-dependant property (i.e. position, rotation or scale) you can see a line in the Envelope-Editor: one line for the X-axis, one for the Y-axis and of course 1 line for the Z- axis (depth)

In the screen-dump here above the yellow curve it shows the change of the rotation in the X-axis (see selection box left underside); the two blue curves give the rotation on the two other axes ( Y and Z). The changing of the Key-frames is simpler than in the previous version 4.X.
