I encountered crashes or hangs when creating a disk project or during exporting. The cause was not obvious and it took me time to find it out. So I thought it might be useful to describe three dysfunctions and their and corrections for flawlessy create a disk image :
- when I insert or lengthen a clip, the chapters get out of sync
- when exporting, during the creation of the disk image, Studio stops with the message "NGStudio has stopped working"
- when exporting during image processing, Studio suddenly hangs on an image
In these cases there is no error message, which does not facilitate the search for the cause of the problem.
Of course, these examples are not exhaustive, but I had a long time to find a solution that I decided to share it with you
Default 1 : when I insert or lengthen a clip, the chapters get out of sync
In the example below we have three clips (1) each associated by a chapter (2) to a menu (3) with a return to menu at the end of timeline. Timeline is set to Insert mode (4).

Still in insert mode (1), another clip is inserted between C1 and C2 (2) as below. Chapters C2, C3 and return to M1 (3) logically follow the movement of the clips.

New case. Yet still in insert mode (1), the same insert (2) caused a gap between the chapters and the sequences as shown below. In fact, the chapters C2, C3 and return to M1 (3) remained blocked at their original location. What has happened?

To find the explanation, we must move to the last image zooming using the slider (1), as below :
The return to M1 (2) is placed at the beginning of the last frame : the chapters and return to menu stay in synch. |
The return to M1 (2) is placed at the end of the last frame : the chapters and return to menu get out of synch. |
 |
 |
But how did it happen? Unfortunately, very naturally : let's go, as shown below, to the end of time line and then generate the return to menu (2), it will be placed at the end of the last image!

So just to avoid the problem, move back of one frame before creating the return to menu (2), manually or using the button (3), or manually move the return to menu to the beginning of the last image.
Default 2 : when exporting, during the creation of the disk image, Studio stops with the message "NGStudio has stopped working"
This is very frustating because the crash occurred during the creation of the disk image, ie at the end of treatment when all the images have been coded, several hours after the start if the project is important.

Below, I have created thumbnail buttons for chapters. A priori, nothing abnormal.

But looking more closely and activating the third button at the bottom we see that its outer frame exceeds the image. |
Below, we pulled up the button so that the outer frame is in the image. That was enough to eliminate the crash. |

Note that the defect does not appear in the disc simulator of the project and I never encountered the problem with DVD, but in Blu-ray only.
Default 3 : when exporting during image processing, Studio suddenly stops on an image
This is the easiest crash to detect because you usually go to the image where the hang occurred (1) and remove it if it is defective.

However, in some cases, the sudden stop has no apparent cause. It's just like if we had hit the pause button, except that there is no pause planned ! In most cases it is sufficient to simply restart exporting and it goes well. But if it still does not pass, you can :
- delete render files "Setup, Control panel, Storage locations, Delete render files"
- restart Studio, or Windows
- or reset Studio. In Studio 18 "Setup, Control panel, Reset " (See also on the site FAQ # 18 - NGStudio has stopped working).
