We always recommend that you install Studio on your C: drive and in the default folders. If you followed our recommendations, your Red Giant plugins will be installed on the C:\ drive in C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\plugins\ RTFXV2 for Studio 18 64 bit installation.
What you might not know is that the Red Giant plugins are supplied with a help file, as noted recently by JCD59 on the French Pinnacle Forum .

Step 1: Existing Situation

This help file, interestingly enough, is available in 10 languages, including French and English. But these help files are accessible only from a selection file in html format or directly from a html file per language. By browsing these help files, illustrations will show you the results of each parameter adjustment on the applied effect, this is the best way to understand the operation of these plugins.

When installing Studio 18, the Red Giant Studio 17 plugins are copied to the RTFXV2 folder for Studio 18.

For example, Knoll Light Factory plugin is installed in the KnollEZSE folder.

  1. This folder contains a subfolder, Knoll_Light_Factory_SE, which contains all the help files.

Folder C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\plugins\RTFXV2\KnollEZSE

In the Knoll_Light_Factory_SE folder, you have:

  1. A folder for each language.
  2. An images folder.
  3. The Langage_choice.html file.

Double clicking on this file opens the help screen and allows you to choose your language file.

Folder C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\plugins\RTFXV2\KnollEZSE\Knoll_Light_Factory_SE

If you open a file that matches a language:

  1. Take French for example.
  2. You will see the KLF_User_Guide.html file that opens the help file of the folder language.
  3. All the basic components of the Help file are in the Source_Files folder.
Folder C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\plugins\RTFXV2\KnollEZSE\Knoll_Light_Factory_SE\French
  1. The contents of the Source_Files folder consists of:
  2. often, an images folder.
  3. about fifteen other files.
Folder C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\plugins\RTFXV2\KnollEZSE\Knoll_Light_Factory_SE\French\Source_Files

These help files in html format sometimes use different pictures from one language to another. Your hard drive is then used by Red Giant to store the help files in 10 languages and several collections of related images, and you certainly don't use all of them.

I had fun looking for lost bytes as we used to do in the good old days when drive space was scarce and expensive. Here, for example, are bytes used just by the  Knoll_Light_Factory Red Giant plugin for single help files in 10 languages:
C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 18\ plugins\RTFXV2\KnollEZSE\Knoll_Light_Factory_SE folder contains all the help files in 10 languages and multiple images files.

Language_choice.html file 602 bytes
Folder Chinese :
Folder source_files

662 bytes
48340 bytes

Folder Dutch :
Folder source_files

662 bytes
55566 bytes

Folder English :
Folder source_files
Folder Images
1310 bytes
55595 bytes
709028 bytes
Folder French :
Folder source_files
Folder Images
 677 bytes
55566 bytes
795136 bytes
Folder German :

73634 bytes
1071616 bytes
Folder Images 981014 bytes
Folder Italian :
Folder source_files
Folder Images
655 bytes
73885 bytes
985508 bytes
Folder Japanese :
Folder source_files
Folder Images

Folder Portuguese :

Folder Russian :

57881 bytes
Folder Spanish :
Folder source_files
Folder Images
677 bytes
66139 bytes
432822 bytes

910 files total: 6,337,754 bytes

The same holds true for the 7 Red Giant plugins:

  1. Knoll_Light_Factory
  2. Magic_Bullet_Cosmo
  3. Magic_Bullet_Looks
  4. Magic_Bullet_Mojo
  5. Studio_Warp_Manual
  6. Trapcode_Particular
  7. Trapcode_Shine

Approximately 6MB * 7 = 42MB for 7 Red Giant plugins for just one Studio version.

If you have multiple versions of Studio installed on the C: drive don't forget to multiply that by the number of installed versions ...

Of course, if you have an OS disk with lots of terabytes, you can go on your way and don't waste any more time on this tutorial. But if you have an SSD OS drive where you have to watch the space you use a little more closely, it might be interesting to read the rest of this tutorial.

Step 2 : What Can You Remove in Each of the 7 Red Giant Effects in Each Version Installed on the System Disk?

If you only use one language, you can remove the Language_choice.html file. The Language_choice.html file is used only to call the file KLF_User_Guide.html of the selected language. You can effectively replace it by a shortcut to go directly to the KLF_User_Guide.html file you want.

Therefore you can remove the language files you don't use or need ... But there might be a catch ... Some languages have their own picture folder, other languages use the common image folder, and finally, some languages may use the images within a folder for another language. If you delete the images folder used by the KLF_User_Guide.html file you kept, the images will be replaced by a "Missing Image" icon.
To find out where the html file searches for its images, right click on an image in the body of the help file and request information about the image. Depending on your browser you should get the information fairly easily. I mainly use Firefox and the "View Image Info" item will provide what you are looking for.

In short, with some experience you will easily save a few megabytes.
These recommendations are in addition to those we already encouraged you to follow in the Free Several GB on Your System Disk tutorial.

So, a few megabytes here, a few megabytes there, as they say, small streams make great rivers ... laugh

I always wondered why when you select a language for Red Giant, all the others are still installed anyway.
Thanks for the tutorial!
