Lesson 1- Files with .HFZ extension - What to do with these files ??

GOAL of this lesson: to understand what a .HFZ file is, and how to make use of it.

An HFZ file contains all the data necessary to reproduce an HFX effect on another computer, provided that the computer has the required license level: HFX Plus, Pro or Mega (and obviously non linear editing software, like Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premiere, Ulead Video,…). In the majority of cases, these HFX effects are created by a user who wishes to share them with other users. You will find throughout these pages various HFZ files showing the desired final effect. By downloading the HFZ file, you will have the ability learn how the effect is done, or to just simply have the effect at your disposal without you needing to read the tutorial!

PLEASE NOTE, if you have the Hollywood FX Plus license, certain downloaded effects will be displayed with a watermark (when the original effects are from HFX PRO/MEGA).

Stage 1

Throughout these lessons, you will find HFZ files. Save the HFZ file in any folder on your hard disk (the hard disk can even be different from the hard disk where Easy FX Editor is installed).

Stage 2

Close Pinnacle Studio & Easy FX Editor.

Stage 3

Double-click on the icon of the .hfz file (which you will have downloaded during one of the lessons on this site or download 249-pip-simple.hfz for example). The installation wizard for HFZ opens and installs all the necessary files.

The window installation of transition

Installation takes place (checking for an up to date HFX license, the various files are saved in the folder specified by the author of the HFZ); check that no error has been found (“Installation complete”). Click on OK to close the dialogue window once the installation is finished.

Stage 4

You can delete the HFZ file once the HFX effect is installed on your PC (*). The effect is installed in the folder specified by the author of the HFZ. If you read the instructions displayed in the installation window before closing it, you will notice that the complete path of the effect is displayed in the way the author decided to arrange it on your hard disk. Regarding the files which I place at your disposal on this site, the folder will always be: “Déclic Vidéo”, this is done in order to keep the effects localized (only one folder, instead of a multitude of folders).
(*) It is not necessary to delete the file once the HFX is installed. You can save the HFZ files you downloaded to a separate folder on your computer in case something has to be re-installed. Then you don't have to look for the file again since you already have it.

Stage 5

Open Pinnacle Studio. Insert two clips on the timeline. Find the transition in the “Declic Video” category (immediately after “Alpha Magic” for Studio 9, all at the end for Studio 10, 11 and 12)
Apply the transition between the two scenes. View it (and if needed, apply background rendering, in AVI DV Encoder)…

That's all there is, it's done!

PLEASE NOTE, if you find the transition does not appear in the album, it will be necessary to carry out the small procedure described here: Tip-1 HFX effects do not appear in Studio.

what if the effects I download from this site are in Pinnacle 9 but they are locked?

It means that you do not have the HFX Plus, Pro or Mega version. For each effect which are published-uploaded on this website, you have an indication whether you need HFX Version Basic, Plus or Pro/Mega.

How can I install the transitions in Studio 12? During the upgrade process it failled to carry my "Declic" collection over.... Thanks

I love the idea of these but most that I downloaded don't work...at least not well. I have three issues
1) My Transition album doesnt' show the Transition but just has a black box.
2) Some even close Pinnacle(12) when I click on them.
3)I first downloaded Mickey Mouse as a test - then I download several other - now in my Transition Album what looks like Mickey Mouse is really a Heart.
I made the mistake of forgetting to close Pinnacle before I download the group. I would love just to delete them all and start over - is there an easy way to do that?

All your question have an answer in our tutorial... Please take time to read them carefully. For deleting HFX, close Studio and delete the associated HFX file. You both have a problem of HFX installation. The program which decompress HFZ is probably missing or not associated with HFZ extension. Try first:
- to associate HFZ file with C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\HollywoodFX\InstallHFZ.exe
- download InstallHFZ from our Download page.
- otherwise, re-install Studio ??

I have Studio12 Ulitimate, and have installed HFX Vol3. I have down loaded your files to my computer but when I follow your procedure they do not show in Pinnicle. Do I need to buy a different HFX Vol? I notice you mention Plus Pro and Mega, but cannot find these on Pinnacles web site. Please can you advise

Hello Yvonne,

You have different "kind" of HFX. HFX Basic, Plus or Pro. Depending of your HFX version, you might not see some of them. In general, all [HFX Basic] are shown correctly. If you want to see additionnal HFX, you need to purchase an HFX Plus/Pro/Mega licence. You can also download the InstallHFZ.exe file which is in our Download page, section HFX Tools. It will unlock some additionnal HFX. You can also download the "unlock" HFX serie which will also unlock other transition. And finally, please take note of the following tutorial:
- Tip-1 HFX effects do not appear in Studio
- Tip-2 My HFX thumbnails in Studio are black
- HFX FAQ

I have problems with the Hollywood FX v4.6. When I used with the Adobe Premiere CS3, show the massage: Unable to start the LicenseTool program.

Hi, I tried to install some of your hfx effects on my machine. It always ends with an error messages (similar to the one below):

I have Vista 64 with Pinnacle studio 12 Ultimate upgraded from 11 Ultimate. Hollywood FX came with them (I didn't buy it separately).
Can you please help me?

Hello Grzegorz,

Can you try to extract the HFX from your C:\ hard drive, and not F:\

Additionnal try: download the InstallHFZ.exe file and check our FAQ called "Error message: This application has failed to start because HfxClasses60.dll was not found...)."

Without success, it looks like you have a bad install of HFX. You might try to re-install it. We sometimes have this kind of error message for certain kind of HFX, but in such case, we put a note inside the HFX download page and the HFX is still working. In your case, I verified and 168-page-tournee does not have any warning message + I downloaded it and extracted it without any trouble. Please do not start a private discussion in this comment section, contact us through the usual page or through forum for additionnal details. Let us know if you succeed.

Hi, thanks for the prompt answer. I've managed to find a problem, albeit after spending a sleepless night. It was an UAC problem ("User Access Controll" feature in Vista). After turning it off, everything installs correctly. Now, beeing able to finish the Tuto-1, I'm more than excited to proceed with the next ones!

It install correctly but when I open studio ultimate 12 it doesnt have a Declic video file or album. Also what is this easy fx thing you are talking about

Read our other tutorials. Like for example: Tip-1 HFX effects do not appear in Studio and Tip-2 My HFX thumbnails in Studio are black
You should learn plenty of things in these two tutorials, otherwise let us know.

Hey DV, so i own the hollywood FX 5 version, but some of the folders such as "Bars" or "quads and peices" do not let me export them and thus create them into HFZ files. How would i go about making them HFZ files without exporting them (since i dont really have that option)? thanks for your time. Rock on

I have downloaded the 001-100_HFX-DVFX.zip, extracted
and have the HFZ files. Do I have to install file by file to install
as HFX file? Or is there a batchfile available to install these 100 files in one step.

You need to select them all, and press enter (they will be installed one after the other), no other possibility...

I started downloading your transitions. At first it worked well.But suddenly I could not open them anymore. The program now aks with what program I want to open them. I do not know what to do. I am a beginner.

Try to drag'n'drop the .hfz file onto InstallHFZ.exe which is located in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\HollywoodFX
