If you are using the 064-news transition that is in our free HFX, and you like it, you can thank André JOUBERT who created it and the guide which accompanies it. The success of this transition has gone beyond the limits of the European continent, because an English speaking friend has asked us to make some improvements. They have spawned two adaptations of this transition: 064-news2 and 064-news3. The old guide has been reviewed and is presented here.

Step 1 : General

This tutorial will show you how to use « Easy FX Creator » included in Pinnacle Studio 9 (work as well with other Studio version, with some adaptation due to the slightly changed interface). The editor included in Studio 9 does not allow you to save transitions, but it can be used to modify existing transitions. This is especially useful for transitions containing text. The editor allows us to replace the text with our own. The following steps use the 064-news transition, which is based on a transition found in MovieMaker from MicroSoft. It consist of a spinning newspaper flying towards you. There is room for 2 lines of text and a clip in the center of the newspaper. You will therefore have to change the text to suit your needs.

You can accomplish this with Studio 9 :

Step 2 : The operations needed to update the 064-news transition

  1. Drop the desired clip on the timeline.

Setting up the clip on the timeline

  1. Double click on the clip.
  2. Adjust the duration to 8 seconds minimum. This will give you a good effect.

Personally, I found that 8-10 seconds is a good duration for this effect.

Checking the duration of the clip

  1. Select the transitions tab.
  2. Select Declic Video.
  3. Select 064-news transition.
  4. Drag and drop it ahead of the clip.

Selecting the transition to insert

NOTE : If you wish to use this transition between 2 clips, you must tick «Reverse» box. (ATTENTION: Studio 9 only). For the following versions, use the 064-news3 transition that is already reversed.
  1. Double click on the transition to open the property box.
  2. Adjust the duration to 7 seconds.
  3. Select edit to customize the titles.

Edition of the transition

  1. The edit windows opens up. Then click on "Titre" (Title) in the tree window.

Selected object to change

  1. The properties window displays text and you can change the text.
  2. You can also change the font.
  3. The text color can also be modified in the properties of the next 4 elements: face, back, side and bevel. For more details on changes to text, check out the tutorials: "Tip-3 Modify "Texthere" for HFX 169" "Tuto-7 Warps, Filters and 3D Text" "Tip-6 Alter the text and position of text in the transition 191-france"

Changing the settings of the object

  1. Same procedure for the subtitle.

Modifying the properties of the second object

  1. To return to Studio, select close in the file menu.

Back in Studio

Step 3 : The operations to edit the transition to 064-news2

Transitions 064-news2 and 064-news3 are improvements to the 064-news transition. All the above applies equally to these two new transitions.

Specificity for 064-news2 and 064-news3 transitions:

  • The title is divided into two texts objects (Title and Title2 Objects), which allows the use of fonts and colors for both sides of the newspaper title;
  • Below the daily headline (Subtitle Object) are two other objects (Title2 object and Sub-Sub-Title3). These two objects can display a subtitle of the headlines on two different lines.

There are 5 objects to change. By clicking in turn on each item:

  • Titre
  • Titre2
  • Sous-Titre
  • Sous-Titre2
  • Sous-Titre3

You can access the "Font" and "Text" of each of these objects. You can then modify to suit your needs. For more details on making changes to the text, check out the tutorials: "Tip-3 Modify "Texthere" for HFX 169" "Tuto-7 Warps, Filters and 3D Text" "Tip-6 Alter the text and position of text in the transition 191-france"

Changing the settings of 064-news2

You can get around this with Studio 9: (With the following versions, please use Transition 064-news3 which is already reversed to get the same result - otherwise you will encounter strange results...)

You are invited to announce only good news ...

Step 4 : Bonus

The more experienced users of our HFX tutorials may even include an image from the title of their favorite daily newspaper by inserting a simple "Flat" object for example, instead of two "Text" objects, which comprises the title of the newspaper in transition 064 NEWS2-or 064-NEWS3. This simple object can be a PNG format image of the newspaper as Host Video. Rendering could be done this way:

Un titre de journal personnalisé

Because this is a little more complicated, I am offering to create an individualized transition, with the title of your choice, to the first five French language users and the first five English language users who:

  • Have been subscribers to our free Newsletter for over a month;
  • Make the request using the "Comments section" of this tutorial (your name and email will stay anonymous);
  • We will contact you (with the email provided in the "email box) to obtain the screenshot or photo scanned in. JPG format.

So if you are not yet listed in our Newsletter, it is not too late ... The offer will remain valid until 5 applications have been received from each language...

{Thanks to Loosecannon for the fine tuning}
