We are often interested in transitions between images, but rarely to the transitions between sounds. Years ago, I had made something special with a transition from HFX I use regularly. I thought it might interest some beginners. Then, let the old Studio users forgive me...
Step 1 : The motivations
When you have two clips on your video track, you have several methods to ensure a transition between two clips. The simpler remains the cut that is to simply put the two clips butt. Then you can use transitions, from the simplest to the most elaborate, for a smooth transition from one clip to another. In all cases where you use a transition, this transition provides the simultaneous transition of the video track and the transition of the audio track.
In the same vein, you have the "A / B Editing" which brings you to insertion editing, L and J cutting. I will not elaborate more on these points that are well covered in the online help of your software or your paper manual. In all cases, you will find all information relevant to the heading "A / B Editing".
Studio has proposed a solution (See Audio Transition in help) that never really gave me satisfaction :
You should lock the video track to drag a transition only on the audio track and :
- In version 9 only "fade" was working;
- In versions 10 to 14 the "fade" works but all other transitions "disolve" functions as J cut.
Step 2 : The solutions proposed by Studio (not too documented in the help ...)
An overview of Studio proposals :

Step 3 : Use transition 305-sound
To begin, drag your two clips on the Studio video track.

I have 10 seconds in the first clip of "OurFunVacation" and 7 seconds in the third, so we have very different sounds on the audio track. We pass instantly from the sound of water to the train noise. Perhaps the sound effect is good ... but if you find it too brutal, you can then correct the audio track without playing with volume modifications while mixing sounds from the two clips.

You insert the transition 305-sound between the two clips and you give it long enough (I stretched the transition to 5 seconds in this example). This transition is neutral for the video track and as you can see, the transition of the audio track is balanced by default. But you can unbalance it if you want.

You start by "blocking" the volume of the clip that you seem to have the proper volume level.

You then adjust the volume of the clip that you believe should be changed. In the example above, I changed to lower the volume of the last clip.
It is not more complicated than that, just if you have the good stuff ...
Step 4 : Bonus
You can find the transition 305-sound in our Free HFX page with all other effects and transitions available.
