One of our faithful readers and friends, Serge Gastineau is the source of the spark that gave rise to this tutorial. On a famous forum, he regretted the lack of tracks in a studio, and in particular he said that simply overlay a logo on a video mobilized the title track for the duration of the video... and it was not entirely wrong !
I saved this phrase in an area of my cerabral hard disk and time doing his work ... this tutorial was created.
We have already explained how to get a third video track in Studio "tinkering" some clips on the Studio video tracks (See "Third Video Track with Pinnacle Studio"). Contrary to the expectations of some users, Studio 14 and Studio 15 still has no extra tracks, so to get around the obstacle without making new investments, we will use an existing plugin to save up our existing Studio tracks. I think you see what I mean...
Step 1 : Yet another tinkering...
In Studio, we have officially only 2 video tracks and a title track :
- Video track
- Overlay track
- Title track
Not long ago, we showed that a trick is to use the title track as a video track without audio (See "Third Video Track with Pinnacle Studio").
So in times of restrictions, do not waste.
- Effectively mobilize the title track for the duration of an editing to include a logo... it's ok when we have the means
- Using the overlay track where we can not do otherwise, why not...
- Using the title track to add a title, although it is made for, it can also troubleshoot further, hence the importance of not using it consistently.
Therefore, I created an Hollywood FX effect like a three-floors rocket...
Step 2 : The three-floors rocket
To carry the joke until after I called this effect 306-economy. It is described in detail in the associated tutorial "Using the HFX effect 306-economy".
This effect includes a logo, a title, an overlay image. All three floors can be activated separately or collectively, more or less (You can use 1, 2 or 3 floors at each use). By cons, it is better to have a modern processor if you do not want to lose patience with the green stripe or work with the background rendering disabled.
But at the end, you can have a single render only using the Studio video track, in order to keep some reserves to continue your editing :
- the overlay track;
- the title track as you can, at a pinch, use it as a video track without audio.
The render, which combines logo, different titles, overlay effect achieved with a single effect with different settings :
Step 3 : First floor
The effect comes with only the logo activated. If you do not make any changes, you'll only have the logo visible by default. If you want tu use your own logo, you will need to replace the existing logo. Likewise if you want to change the position of the logo, you will need to change the position settings of the logo. For more details on the procedure, see the associated tutorial "Using the HFX effect 306-economy".
Implementation :
If you want your logo throughout the duration of the editing :

Select all the clips that need to receive the logo (all the clips if the logo must be continuous).

Add all at once the HFX Filter effect to all your selected clips.

HFX Filter effect is applied to all the selected clips. The overlay track and title track are free.

Still with all the clips selected, edit HFX Filter to get in Easy Creator V6.0.
By default, the transition STB-Fly-Off is loaded into your effect.
- Replace the transition STB-Fly-Off by the transition 306-economy by double-clicking this one to load it in Easy Creator;
- Change everything about your logo;
- Save your custom effect with your logo in another name (MyLogo for example - See Step 6);
- Get back in Studio by clicking the OK button.
Your entire editing is now marked with your logo. For more details, refer to the associated tutorial "Using the HFX effect 306-economy".
Step 4 : Second floor
The object "Text3D" is the second floor. It comes not enabled, the transparency is set to 100%. If you want to use it and ignite, you will need to :
- change transparency
- edit the text and its attributes
- change the trajectory
Implementation :
When a clip has received a HFX Filter effect, it can not receive a second. But it is not forbidden to alter the one already in place...You just select the clip that should receive a title and edit HFX Filter.
When editing the HFX Filter effect, it is your custom effect "MyLogo" which will open (with your logo). Make the changes you want on the title. If you want to make a generic with several lines, you can use the method of cloning. Currently we do not have a tutorial using this method but a tutorial is in preparation...
For more details, refer to the associated tutorial "Using the HFX effect 306-economy" and possibly save your effect as a new descriptive name - See Step 6.
Step 5 : Third floor
The object "Superposition" is the third floor. It comes not enabled, the transparency is set to 100%. If you want to use it and ignite, you will need to :
- change transparency
- change the image
- change the trajectory
Implementation :
You just select the clip that must receive an overlay effect and you edit HFX Filter.
When editing the HFX Filter effect, it is your custom effect "MyLogo" which will open. Make the changes you want on the overlay effect. For more details, refer to the associated tutorial "Using the HFX effect 306-economy" and possibly save your effect as a new descriptive name - See Step 6.
Step 6 : Save your modified effects
Each time you modify the effect of departure, it is strongly recommended to save your effect change without overwriting the original effect, to use again later.
All the information you need has already been provided in our tutorial "Tuto-3 Prepare the saving of HFX effects" and in our HFX FAQ :
- One of my transition has a "gray icon". I can not erase.
- Delete an HFX or an HFX category.
- HFX images format.
Step 7 : Bonus
You can find the transition 306-economy in our free HFX page with all other effects and transitions available.
One detail, if you have mistakenly included a logo in your montage, we've got you covered.. See our tutorial "Clean-up a Video with VirtualDub and DeLogo" for all the explanations necessary to remove.
