With this special effect, created solely to save the existing tracks of Studio, you can insert a logo in your entire editing, insert titles, still titles, rolling or crowling titles, overlay images ... To perform all these operations, together or separately, this effect uses only one track : Studio video track. It lets available the title and overlay track.
Finally, it can troubleshoot some users who are not blessed with a version of Studio to insert rolling or crowling titles.
It is designed to be fully configured by the user and this tutorial is designed to give you all the tricks possible to achieve.

Step 1 : Description of the effect

This HFX effect is not a transition It is an effect that must be applied to one or multiple clips using the video HFX Filter effect of Pinnacle. The tutorial "Add a logo, a title and an overlay image using a single video track" gives full details of its implementation in Studio.

This effect is constructed as a 3-floors rocket.

  • The first floor will display a logo. It is the only floor in service by default at delivery.
  • The second floor displays a still, mobile, rolling or crowling title. This stage is disabled by default. If you want to use it you must put into service and set to your liking.
  • The third floor displays an overlay image. The third floor is also disabled by default. If you want to use, it should also be put into operation and be set according to your needs.

If you only want to insert a logo in your editing, you only use the 1st floor.

If you want to display a logo and title, you will use the 1st floor and you will put into service the 2nd floor.

If you want to display a logo and display an overlay image, you can use floors 1 and 3.

But if you really want to display a logo + title + overlay image, I think you understood what you have to do...

Step 2 : Insert a logo

If you only want to insert a logo, you will not have many changes to make. You will have at least to replace the default logo with your own logo. If you agree with the position and size of the logo by default you have completed your settings.

The first operation will make the replacement of default logo with your own.

  1. You click on the default media "P_LogoDV"
  2. You click on the yellow icon "Folder"and you select the name of your logo you've done a little earlier in PNG format to replace the filename by default.
If you're not familiar with such changes, you can read our tutorial "Tip 10 - Changing the map for effect HFX 191" for more information on the details of the transaction.

Replacing the default logo

Having replaced the logo by default by your logo, you may need to change its size and positioning.

  1. Select the object Logo.
  2. You adjust its position in X and Y (with the sliders or by entering values).
    Possibly, beware of overscan.
  3. Possibly you can resize.
  4. You do not touch the Dissolve setting. By default it is set to 0. Without dissolve the logo is visible.

In principle, a logo does not change up. So you resize it and let it in a fixed position. It will not be subject to a trajectory, so no envelope, no keyframes: the dream ...

If you're not familiar with such changes, you can read our tutorial "Tutorial-14 Change the Size of an Object" for more information on the details of resizing an object or our tutorial "Tuto-9 Change the position of an object in a HFX" for more information on the details of the position of an object...

Tip : To prevent small malignant trying too easy to remove your logo (see our tutorial "Clean-up a Video with VirtualDub and DeLogo"), you can change its location several times in your editing, you will complicate their task a little...

Resize and position of the custom logo
Step 3 : Insert a title

You will proceed to the firing of the second floor devoted to the title.

1st phase : Position title and make its text visible.

  1. You select the object "Votre titre" (= "My title").
  2. You position it.
  3. You make the text visible by setting dissolve to 0.
  4. By default, the title delivered with the effect has a centered trajectory and runs from top to bottom of the screen, as a generic. It is therefore subject to an envelope and includes two key frames. If the trajectory of this title is not for you, you will need to remove the envelope of this object. You will have the following choice :
    - or you want a still title and in that case you will not need to create a new envelope.
    - or you want a moving title and you need to create an envelope with at least two keyframes.

If you still have some difficulties with envelopes and keyframes, do not hesitate to plunge into our tutorials "Tip-6 Alter the text and position of text in the transition 191-france" and "Tuto-7 Warps, Filters and 3D Text".

Setting of object "Votre titre"

2nd phase : Edit the title text, its police and its attributes.

  1. Select the plugin "Text3D".
  2. You click the yellow icon "Folder" and you change the font, style and size of your title
Immediately below, you substitute the text of your title to the title "Votre titre" (="Your title").

Nota : attributes "Color" and "Effects" of the window you just used, are not taken into account by the plugin "Text3D". These attributes will parameterise separately with the 4 surfaces called respectively "face", "back", "side" and "bevel".

Our tutorial Tuto-7 Warps, Filters and 3D Text gives a detailed description of the use of these parameters.

Modification of the text and its attributes
Step 4 : Insert an overlay image

You will proceed to the firing of the third and top floor dedicated to inserting an overlay image or an overlay video.

1st phase :Position the image and make it visible.

  1. Select the media "P_A380".
  2. You click the yellow icon "Folder" and select the name of your image file (preferably in PNG format) to replace the filename by default.
&Substitution of the final image in default image

2nd phase :Change the position, size of the image and make it visible.

  1. Select the object "Superposition"
  2. Position it.
  3. You give him axes of rotation X, Y and Z. If all axes are to 0, the object will be centered in front of the screen.
  4. Eventually, you resize it.
  5. Finally you make visible the image contained in the object by setting the "Dissolve" to 0. Without dissolve the image becomes visible.
  6. The current image (P_A380) represents a plane. The object "Superposition" (="Overlay") that contains the picture is subject to an envelope with 2 keyframes. This envelope determines the trajectory to be followed by the aircraft. If the trajectory of this image does not suit you, you will need to remove the envelope of the object "Superposition". You will have the following choice :
    - or you want a still image and in that case you will not need to create a new envelope.
    - or you want a moving picture and you will need to create an envelope with at least two keyframes.

If you still have some difficulties with envelopes and keyframes, do not hesitate to plunge into our tutorials "Tip-6 Alter the text and position of text in the transition 191-france" and "Tuto-5 Creating effects".

Positioning, resize and trajectory of overlay image
Step 5 : Saving your modified effects

Each time you modify the original effect, it is strongly recommended to save your effect change without overwriting the original effect, to use again later.
All the information you need has already been provided in our tutorial "Tuto-3 Prepare the saving of HFX effects" and in our HFX FAQ :

  • One of my transition is shown with a "grey box". I can not delete it.
  • How to delete an HFX effect or an HFX category.
  • HFX image format ?

I only hope that with tjis tinkering you will be patient a little longer, until that multitrack VERSION appears.
