After you have created an HFX effect and closed the Easy FX Editor (File > Close), you notice that you do not see your HFX effects listed in Pinnacle Studio (transition list). Likewise, during the installation of an HFZ file (double-click on .HFZ), you discover that the HFX does not appear correctly in the list of transitions in HFX Pinnacle Studio.
No need to panic, sometimes Pinnacle Studio and the Easy FX Editor get mixed up... The following procedure will help you to restore everything. Windows Vista or Seven users: take note that it is strongly advised to turn off UAC - or set to zero in Seven - (User Account Control) and you must be logged in administrator mode when running the batch file (in order to regenerate the HfxXML folder) *and* when running Studio.

- Close Pinnacle Studio & Easy FX Editor.
- Delete the effects.org file which is located in folder
Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pinnacle\Hollywood FX for Studio.
Don't worry, this file will be re-created the next time you start Pinnacle Studio. - Delete the AlbumOrg.org file located in folder
Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Pinnacle\Hollywood FX for Studio
Again, don't worry, this file is also re-created next time you start Pinnacle Studio.

- Close Pinnacle Studio & Easy FX Editor.
- Depending of your Studio 10 version and Operating System:
- For Studio 10.7 and below:
Delete the two files EffectCache.xxxxxx et EditorCache.xxxxx (xxxxx = a hex number) in the folder
..Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 10\Plugins\RTFx
Don't worry, these files are also re-created next time you start Pinnacle Studio. - For Studio 10.8 and Windows XP:
Delete the two files EffectCache.xxxxxx et EditorCache.xxxxx (xxxxx = a hex number) in the folder
..Documents and Settings\all users\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 10\Programs\Plugins\RTFx

For Studio 10, there is an alternate solution consisting of an automatic batch file fix (after installing HFZ). Just download the file and execute it (save it on your hard disk and execute it. Executing from the website might cause some troubles) !
--> Repare-HFX-S10-7-XP.bat or Repare-HFX-S10-8-XP.bat or Repare-HFX-S10-8-Vista.bat <--
(for Vista, switch off the "user account control" before running the batch file - otherwise, you will have errors)

(for Vista and Seven, you must be logged in administrator mode and switch off the "user account control" - or set to zero in Seven - before running the batch file - otherwise, you will have errors)
Open Pinnacle Studio, and everything will be OK !

hi, I downloaded the free hollywood effects and it shows in easy effects editor but not in my transitions. yes when i did the same with unlock weddings 2 and 3 and sports that has worked fine. where in studio 11 ultimate might be the downloaded transtions be stored please. in the effects editor its listed as in declic but in studio there is no such categorie.

Bill, the transitions should appear in Studio at the bottom, just before 3rd party transitions. Apply strictly the information provided in this tutorial. You can also try the "Tip-2 My HFX thumbnails in Studio are black", it will help you to solve the problem.

I just began using S-11 plus after many years with S 9. While loooking for answers to some questions I came accross the Declic site and am very glad I did.
I just downloaded some HFx files and followed procedure to install. When I ran Studio they did not show up n my transitions list so I followed the above procedure. I doing so I found a few things that I need to ask.
Will I have to follow this procedure everytime I download and install new files?
When I tried to use the Hfxrepair.bat for Windows XP I found the batch file to be incorrect. The original script had the following line in it:
cd\documents and settings\all users\documents\programs\pinnacle\studio 11\programs\plugins\RTFx
when in fact the correct line for my system is:
cd\documents and settings\all users\documents\pinnacle\studio 11\programs\plugins\RTFx
The originsl line had an extra "\programs\" in it.
Just want to pass this along.

Yes, unfortunately, you will have to follow this procedure everytime you download a new transition. For the time being, no other possibility (if we find a solution, we will inform you through the newsletter, do not hesitate to subscribe).
For the path, it is maybe due to your installation, as we have tested it on various configuration and the path is correct. I have just checked it again. I use the bat file for my own use daily.

If I open up declic transitions or david star transitions with hfx 5.5 they all work correctly but in version 6 the do not work. I tried the above instructions and I trie coping the images and effects of version 5.5 into v6. most of the declic are working none of david star fx are working. Any suggestions? Thanks Candace |

Please take note of the revised batch file available for Studio 11 and Studio 10 (if you run Windows Vista). It should solve all problems recently encountered by many of you (if you have any problem with these files, please use our form on the contact page for assistance regarding this specific problem).

I am using Studio 11 ultimate and I downloaded some free HFX transitions.
The problem is that they appear in section Declic but they are not visible - every window for each transition is black. So I have to open all windows to find the one that I want. Thanks for your answer.

Did you already applied the appropriate tip and trick: "Tip-2 My HFX thumbnails in Studio are black" (you will find it in HFX tutorials, tips & tricks). It should solve your problem.

Hello. I have Pinnacle Studio Plus 11. I had the serial for a few packs of the HFX. But when I entered them it did say: Ripples and Circles HFX are now unlocked. I tried your thing here and they still didnt appear. So I am very puzzled. Please help.

I'm using Studio 11.0.0.5082 (I know I should upgrade). When I go to the Hollywood FX directory and double click on Easy_FX.exe it give me a dialog box that states that Easy FX Standalone Editor has stopped working (Vista).
On another computer I'm running XP and the Easy_FX.exe opens fine.
Any suggestions?

I think I discovered the problem. Apparently HFX is not automatically associated with all of Studio 11 install apps. You have to go to the directory where HFX is located and click on the HFXSerial.exe and enter in the key you got when you registered the product.
A little strange but..
I would suggest that Pinnacle in the future have a method of getting to the FX editor from the main studio it just seems logical. |

Studio and Easy FX Editor are already linked together (associated). Otherwise, we would have make a tips & tricks por tutorial. I assume that you have some installation problem. I would be very grateful if you can join one of the forum mentionned on the home page, you will have many people ready to help you sovling your specific problem. As far as I know, you do not encounter any problems with the tutorial here.

Hi, I have Studio 11 Plus release 11.00.5082.
I have installed all your free transitions but while I see all of them in Fx Editor, I have just a few in Studio11. I have investigaed in FAQ and tried all suggested solutions:
- reinstall code
- cancel EffectCache and EditorCache files
- cancel all items in HfxXML fold but not improved the situation.
- I have also tryed to cancel AlbumOrg.org and Effect.org
- I have also tried with Fx-Editor saving the transition with a different name in a different folder but nothing to do.
I have tryed to change the transition using HFX editor in Studio. It changes and allows me the transition I selected but it keeps on not being shown in the Studio transition window
Where did I miss ?
(in Studio9 and Studio10 everything was perfect)

I have reinstalled all the transitions directly from the webpage (not saving in my pc (as before) then installing the same once saved) and, don't ask me why, once cleaned EffectCache, EditorCache and HfxXML, I have all the transitions.

Each time I save a custom transition in FX for Studio 6, another icon for it show up in my custom transitions folder, e.g. if I save one called MyTransition and later modify it and save it, there are 2 icons shown. Each time I save it another shows up. If I delete one of them, they are all deleted. How do I clean up the folder that is displayed?

We are about to publish a FAQ related to cleaning HFX (deleting a HFX in fact). In the meantime, I propose that each time you save a transition, you use "SAVE" instead of "SAVE AS", it will avoid duplicate entry. Stay tuned through the newsletter for the "HFX FAQ - How to delete HFX".

I'm trying to organized my transition. In FX everything moves in my folders the way I placed them but when I open Studio It will make three folder from my one. One for each volume. How can I avoid this.?

Sorry for answering so late... Some people have the same problem than you, and currently nobody found a solution. We may ask Remy Felhmann or Markk655 to have a look to it, they are a king for this kind of problems !
In general, it won't happen if you do not rename the HFX. If you rename them and use a number lower than the latest HFX i nyour collection, you may experience this problem. Nevertheless, it is not systematic.

Hi all,
I have installed Studio 12 and was able to see the transitions after doing the migration from Studio 11 but once selected they were crashing studio 12. after 3 or 4 times they simply disappeared.
I have tried the fix suggested for Studio 11 and deleted those cache files as well but it did not help.
Then I tried to repair studio 12 by going to CP -> Programs -> Studio 12 -> Repair but this did not help either.
I even reinstalled Studio 11 content DVD but no luck.
Does anyone have any idea of how to fix it?

Looks like after reinstalling Studio 11 content DVD and repairing Studio 12 installation I am able to see all of the transitions, so you can try that in case you don't see them |

There is currently a known problem of Pinnacle. The installation of Studio 12 goes well if Studio 11 was uninstalled. Pinnacle is trying to find a solution to install Studio 12 even with Studio 11 already installed. It is expected that Pinnacle is the solution. |

If you have Hollywood version 5 and 6 on the same computer it means you have Studio 9 installed beside studio 11.
Wich operating system you have?
Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista?
I supose that you have Vista, I think that Hollywood 5.0 does not work with vista, and that makes you see the effects in Hollywood 6 and not in Hollywood 5

Gracias Etienne, Mi sistema operativo es Windows Xp con Sp2, nunca he instalado studio 9, tengo studio 11, los HFX 5 son los pro y los del mega pack, ademas de los declic que se instalan dentro de studio pero en una carpeta diferente a los HFX6, y son los que no puedo ver en studio 11. Ademas cuando utilizo un hfz este se descomprime pero terminando da un error sobre todo con los objetos. Espero que me puedan enterder. Mil gracias |

Can anyone tell me, I have Hollywood FX basic, version 6, all transitions are visible and usable in that, but when I try to open them in Studio11, they all have a watermark in the center, or they just don't appear at all. Can I make them work in Studio, since they are in FX I shouldn't have to buy them again, right?

Please have a look to the "HFX FAQ" page, there are plenty of good stuff and answers there. You should be able to resolve your problem. Take note:
- download only HFX marked as [HFX Basic]
- download the "unlock xxx" which will add HFX
- download and replace your InstallHFZ.exe file (adding HFX as well)
All packages are present on our website.
If you still have problems, please use one of the forums mentionned on the home page.

Sure, it works with S11. But as far as I understand, your question is not related to the tutorial "HFX effects do not appear in Studio"....

Dear Sir,
I purchased Avid Liquid 7 Pro from a reputable stockist about 17 months ago.
When I bought the software it came with The Avid Liquid Big Splash Bundle.
This included
Title.Deko Pro
Hollywood FX Pro
Magic Bullet Movie Looks
The unlock serial codes do not seem to work and although I have sent various emails to Avid, they do not seem to have solved the problem so far. Their email thread system times out after 48 hours and it takes forever to explain what I thought would be a simple solution to them.
They did however give me a new code for Title Deko Pro which is now working.
I can not get the effects working (ie Hollywood FX and others) or Smartsound or Magic Bullet.
Can you please help me?

Hi,
I just upgraded to Studio 12 and uninstalled studio 11 then I installed the HFX 6.0.
The HFX 6.0 Transitions still don't appear in the transitions tab after using the Repare-HFX-S12-XP.bat batch file.
I tried to manually delete the files mentioned but the EffectCache.xxxxxx and EditorCache.xxxxx are not in the specified directory. I deleted the contents of the hfxxml anyway and when I ran studio 12, the transitions still did not appear.
What did I do wrong? Please help! |

Hi there,
I have been reading (and applying) all your tips and tricks. But I still have some problems. I am using Studio plus 12 with vista. And I have installed the bonus CD from studio 10. I have used studio 8,9 and 10 on another PC.
After your tips I am able to see the transitions I have downloades from the declic site (eg flags), but I still cannot see all the other series. Like family, sports etc. I can not even see the locked transitions and when I go to the Pinnacle site (more transitions) it seems like there is not anything to download (which is true, because I have installed the Bonus CD).
I hope my story makes sense to you. The biggest problem is that I can't see all the different transition folders.

PS: your problem is completely different than the one described in this tip & trick, because I never heard anybody having this kind of problem (unable to see transitions folders). This tutorial only deal with Declic Video FX transitions, and not Pinnacle transitions folders. I would say that you had a problem during install ? Can you please contact us through Pinnacle forum ?

This tip works well with Vista 64.
It is essential to fully read the instuctions and turn off the UAC - otherwise it will not work!

Déclic, thanks for your help on this - re-reading your website has enabled
me to solve the problem!
After my previous e-mail to you I had a problem with my new PC (unrelated to Studio 12/HFX) and had to do a complete reinstall. When I eventually
reinstalled Studio 12, transferred previous HFX Mega content and installed
SmartSound, only the standard Studio 12 HFX effects would show in the album.
I then re-read your instructions and saw that for Vista the UAC had to be
turned off! After doing this and executing your batch file all the HFX Mega
Transitions were visible.
I then installed the HFZ files from my old PC (with UAC off) and then ran
your batch file. My personal HFX folder and the transitions were then also
visible and worked correctly.

Hello eian,
It means that your installation has not been processed through the usual standard way (you probably installed HFX/Studio in a separate hard disk or in a non standard folder). In such case, we can not provide a batch file which is working, so you have to follow the MANUAL method described in this tutorial. Keep us informed.

You probably have a graphic card problem (try to update your driver), or slow computer (which cause problem when rendering HFX). Please do not start a thread here in this comment section, try one of the Avid Liquid forum. Thanks,

I tried both tips listed to make transitions appear rather than show as "black" and I still see them as black. Also, some of them have an "unlock box and the Pinnacle" logo watermark.
I did the following
:
Open the transition and click edit, do nothing and close Pinnacle and re-open
and
For Studio 12 : --> Repare-HFX-S12-XP.bat |

As you can see in this comment section, some other people already had your problem. But it has always been solved by *STRICTLY* following the tutorial. Sometimes, we forget one step. Try to repeat it. Also download a new transition, it might help as well.
Concerning unlock, try our 3 HFX unlock (search for keyword unlock in the Free HFX page), also check our HFX FAQ (there is a utility called InstallHFZ.exe - FAQ is called "How can all the Hollywood FX transitions be unlocked ?"). Have you also tried: Tip-2 My HFX thumbnails in Studio are black ?
If nothing work, please contact us through the contact page, or through forums.
@ DJ M,
Same tips than for Gene, carefully go step by step through the tutorial, you will see that they will show up (do not forget to *CLOSE* Pinnacle Studio before launching the batch file).

Problem - NON LEGIBLE THUMBNAILS
After reinstalling my operating system and studio TWICE the thumbnails for HFX 3 are sill not legible ! Pinnacle is sending me a new disc as they decided that the problem is with the execution . Pinnacle had sent me a replacement for my HFX 3 disc but nothing changed !
Used Windows "un installer" to remove HFX 3 ( Did NOT work - HFX 3 remained functioning in Studio 12 and in the HFX Editor ) Don't know why ??????
Read your FAQ on deleting individual transitions in HFX and deleted one by one all the transitions for HFX 3 in the Editor
Deleted each group heading in the Editor
Checked Studio 12 and all transitions where still listed for HFX 3
Ran your REPAIR - HFX 12 file
Ran "Ccleaner" software to eliminate junk files that are not valid
Ran a software for REGISTRY repairs etc. ( I use Registry Booster 2 )
Reloaded Disc containing HFX 3
SUCCESS !!!!
Pinnacle was not able to fix but your little program did the final trick !!
I have to keep saying on how you have added to the joy of a great hobby !! I hope you will let everyone know that !!

Out of the 70 comments left in this section, half of them (35) appeared to be problems identical to yours. After investigation and contacting people, it appears that the tutorial was not followed correctly, or that one step was missed...
I would be grateful if you can:
1/ Read carefully the tutorial once more
2/ Try the manual steps
3/ If all fails, then download our Repare-HFX batch file which will solve the problem (but read the notice with it, apply it correctly)...
