Remember ... September 2004 and the bill came for around 78.00 euros, shipping included. You wondered what it was? It was the introduction of the Studio 9 PLUS update with its overlay track: a great enhancement for Studio fans.

Step 1 : Better than a thousand words...

A demonstration where the "current users" recognized clips from "A Day at the Zoo" but at the time, the jet was not there...

Déclic Vidéo: "After receiving Pinnacle Studio 9 PLUS, I did some quick tests to get an idea of the power of the software. It was based on what VitalSparks had done (with his video demo "All Three tracks" that has unfortunately disappeared), except that I wanted to have moving video instead of moving images.
By combining S9 Plus and HFX, it’s possible to create moving video within the video (even the possibility of having several videos displayed simultaneously), all with a single render. Previously, it was necessary to go through several renders to get a similar result. Thank you for the second video track and showing how to apply HFX.

Here are the results of my tests (don’t expect anything extraordinary, I made it in 5 minutes. It is merely to show that it is possible to do something just a little bit sophisticated. Later we can refine the details)."

Step 2 : Making a PIP move with S9+ and HFX

It's easy, drop these on the timeline:

• your video background on the main track;
• drag a different video on the overlay track.

Apply the HFX effect to each video. This effect is different than the moving PIP seen in
"To Create PIP (Picture in Picture) with Movement"
We must change the movement of the envelope for the PIP window so the video slides diagonally (top left to bottom right for example). This can be done very simply if you have understood and remembered this tutorial.
ATTENTION, if you use / get one of the PIPs from another tutorial, you might have to swap the "Host Video 1" media with "Host Video 2" (otherwise, the effect might not be applied to the right video track!).

After you apply an effect to each video, add a fade between each clip, as well as at the beginning and end of the clip. This allows for displaying multiple videos simultaneously on the screen.

Step 3 : S9 PLUS and Chromakey

Again, nothing difficult, just have some pictures, part of which have a uniform color to remove. Place the images on the overlay track and use the chromakey function (use the color picker that allows you to select the color to be deleted in the final render). Tweak the settings to improve transparency and voila!

4. BONUS: A pack of about twenty ready to overlay images. These images allow you to use the overlay because they have solid colors that stand out from the other colors.
