When you hear this word, generally speaking you would think about ripples in the water. But since the introduction of Studio this word is also known in video editing.
The ‘rippling’ function is designed to place the same identical transition between a number of continuous clips or photographs on the time-line (for example a dissolve). This function comes in very handy when you want to snazz up a number of slides with the same transition. But also in a ‘normal’ video, the function can be handy.
It works like this:
- Place a number of scenes on the time-line.
- Place a transition between the first two slides / clips at the beginning of the time-line (for example a dissolve)
- Select this transition , keep the Shift-button pushed in and select a clip or slide at the end. With this a continuous number of clips / slides will be selected.
- Click with the right mouse button and choose ‘Ripples’in the popup-menu. All clips / slides will have the same transition.

When there is already another transition between some of the selected clips / slides, they will not change. This offers the ability to add special transitions in those places, where you deem it necessary, and after that change all remaining transitions change to a dissolve.
Do not make confusion between this tutorial, and the other one relating to plugins: "Apply the parameters of a clip to several other clips".
