Double-codec entries in Studio 11 Make Movie

Many users have reported the ‘double entries’ issues after launching Studio by double-clicking on the project file (.stx), a shortcut based on it (.lnk), or a restart of Studio following a crash and without choosing to restore the last used project. It has been determined that in these particular circumstances Studio does rebuild some internal data info especially if it was used for the first time and it's needed to self-reinstall some components. This is why you’re getting double entries. In this case, each 2nd entry (the double) must be not used otherwise you might crash Studio. This Tips & Tricks allows you to get rid of these double entries.

  • exit Studio
  • In the Control Panel, check Folder Options settings: "Show hidden files and folders" and do not "Hide extensions for known file types"
  • look for the following file (folder names can slightly differ):

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 11\programs\Sites\COMPUTER_NAME\Settings\Settings.vst
Vista: C:\Users\Public\Public doc\Pinnacle\program files\Pinnacle\Studio 11\programs\Site\COMPUTER_NAME\Settings\Settings.vst
Hint: MB, one of our reader, found it easier to find the "Settings.vst" file by doing a "search" within windows explorer under C:\documents and Settings after setting 'show hidden files & not hide extentions'.

  • this file is incorrect if the size exceed 1000ko. If so delete it! (usual size ~ 598-652ko).
You might find many Settings.vst files please delete only if more than 1000ko (you might prefer to rename as .old instead deleting it, works as well).
  • start Studio without opening a project; he will re-create automatically this file with correct data
  • done, problem solved !

Once this file is re-created correctly by Studio, you might want to change it’s attributes to "Read Only". This way the problem will not occur again, or just temporarily if Studio is started in the ‘wrong’ way (then you just need to exit Studio and restart normally). However please note that this file is not supposed to be setup as "Read Only", so it’s recommended to remove this attribute prior to upgrading Studio software. Here, we are just looking to prevent unattended updates during Studio startup.

Very good idea MB. I will add this to the tutorial, it may help other people to find the file.

Glad you figured it out. I had complained about this to Pinnacle and no one seemed to have a clue what the problem was. Thanks!

Is this the same as in" make movie" when the drop down files has two entries for each file type,i.e.mpeg-2, listed twice vertically.I'll click on one and get dvd compatible as the only write option, click on the second mpeg-2 and it gives me all of the write options.P.S. looking forward to using the transitions.
