It includes many fonts, many colors, gradients, and various motifs and you can make any kind of title. But one of our readers would like a transparent title ... No, this is not a joke ... He would like it so "you can only see the edges of letters and the interior of letters is composed of the background video". Certainly we've done a tutorial "Mapping an image to a text with Boris Graffiti and Studio" but the procedure is different since there is nothing to map to the text, it is even necessary that the letters are transparent. Unless I am mistaken, I do not think that a transparent font exists in the Boris Graffiti's styles palette. Then I looked at this and realized that it is easier to make transparent letters than to map an image or a video. Step 1 : Implementation in StudioYou will not need a screenshot as the procedure is simple. - Put a clip of a few seconds on the Studio video track;
- Apply a Boris Graffiti effect;
- Edit in Boris Graffiti.
For this tutorial, I selected the same 5 second clip that was used in the tutorial Mapping an image to a text with Boris Graffiti and Studio (7th clip of "OurFunVacation"), allowing you to see how the implementation is different in Studio. Step 2 : Achieving the Effect in Boris GraffitiUpon opening the "Library Browser", immediately go to the "Advanced mode".
- Before entering your text, I suggest you properly set your preview screen;
- In the "Composite" Window, open the "Preview" menu;
- Make sure the "Preview With Square Pixels" item is ticked if your video is 16:9 and unchecked if it is 4:3.
This setting will facilitate any text placement so you will not have any unpleasant surprises when returning to Studio later.
- By default Boris Graffiti has created a "Text" track and a "Background" track;
- Click the rectangle icon that represents the text form "3D Plane" track to change the shape of this track.
|
 |
| Select the "3D Extrusion" shape. Remember our previous tutorials, this is the magical shape ... Notice the change in the shape icon. |
 |
 |
- Render the "Text" track and double-click on the associated "Text" track;
- Then enter the text "DV - FX" in the "Text Window" which just opened. Choose a font and a typeface large enough such as Arial Black 168 for example.
|
 |
- In the "Controls" window, normally located in the top left of your screen (Here I moved "Controls" windows for clarity);
- Select the "Textures" tab;
- Tick the boxes "FR" (Front), "EX" (Extrusion) and "BV" (Bevel).
Each time you check a box, the corresponding track is automatically created with default settings. You'll notice I haven't checked the "BK" (Back) box here because we can't see behind the characters. We only see the front face, the thickness of the characters and the beveled portion.
|
Step 3 : Back in StudioTo return to Studio, click the "Apply" button. Wait for the rendering to stop and you will see something like this: Step 4 : BonusYou can download the file "Transparent.grf" available in the « Associated Files » section below. I told you it was not a joke ... {Screen Capture made with TechSmith Snagit 10} {Thanks to Loosecannon for the fine tuning} |

Thanks, DV FX |
