Tutorial to learn how to make batch conversionsWith this freeware, is it possible to convert, re-name, or re-size and crop batch image files. IfranView provides perfect quality for all these operations. In addition, IrfanView is free ! Freeware IrfanView - Download IrfanView. This freeware is composed of 2 modules : IrfanView and IrfanView Thumbnails. In this tutorial,, only Thumbnails module is approached. It will help us in resizing and conforming to standard video size 4:3 for using the images in our video footage (768x576). Tip: before proceeding, create 2 folders on your hard disk to make operations easier. One directory for pictures to be transformed, and another one for pictures modified by IrfanView. This way, you have a backup folder in case you have any problems.
- open IrfanView Thumbnails
A- search in the subfolders for the pictures folder and click on it. Files are displayed in the right window.
B- select all pictures (select them all using keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A or by menu "Options + Select all")

- Menu File / Start batch dialog with selected files... (keyboard shortcut > B)
1 - select the files in the window (all > Ctrl+A)
2 - the selected files are displayed here
3 - select the output folder > Output directory
4 - select the conversion format > Output format
(in general, choose BMP for Pinnacle Studio)
5 - Work as / allows you to choose the operation to be applied : batch conversion, batch rename, or convert and rename

CROP > to crop the pictures (9)
the frame size to be defined is computed following (X/Y) coordinates as well as (Width/Height) of the new framework
RESIZE > define the new size (10)
- set new size manually select the new size
- set new size as a percentage of the original (11) > new size proportional to the original
- Preserve aspect ratio > keep actual ratio (width/height ratio)
- In general, choose 768x576 for 4:3 format
OTHER OPTIONS > you can enter specific properties for the batch
OK > save parameters and returns to the batch window

- push START (6) button to launch the conversions.
- a Batch window will open - conversion done > to follow current progress
- at the end of the conversion > Exit
- new pictures are saved in the backup folder we defined at the beginning (3)
That's it, you're all done ! Take note that if you use Stage Tools™ Moving Picture, you do not need to resize your picture, since you will use the full scale of the picture for the effect. |
