- You uninstalled Studio 10, taking care to keep SmartSound but it is not available in Studio 11 (only Scorefitter ™)
- You uninstalled Studio 10 and SmartSound but in the end you still want to have it in Studio 11
Solution: - Exit Studio, as well as any other program possibly open
- Make sure that you have sufficient rights to update the system
- Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs: Delete "SmartSound Quicktracks Plugin"
- Put the installation disk No. 1 or 2 of Studio 10 (depending the version Studio you have), and view the contents of the directory SmartSound
- Start "Quicktracks Install" to install the "SmartSound Quicktracks Plugin"
- Start "SmartSound Pinnacle Music" to unpack the music
SmartSound is now available in Studio 11. Do NOT apply the update "Quicktracks Updater Version 3060" which you would possibly possess.SmartSound would not appear in Studio 11.
Note: If this tip doesn't work, try to remove all occurences of the SmartSound key D4ADF7A47D4F94A439A460D6954AC3E7 which is located at several places in the Windows Registry. Then repeat all steps listed in above solution. Warning, do not attempt to update the Registry if you don't feel comfortable. Can make the system unstable.
Do *not* use the patch from the smartsounds web site, it adds more trouble. Warning (note from Buddy - see comments below): if you have any other video programs installed on the same machine you will lose Smart Sound if those programs also use smartsound. Example: Studio 12 Ultimate and Ulead Video on same computer. Studio 12 loaded first and SmartSound is lost when upgraded from 10. Load Ulead on computer and SmartSound is active. Following this tip and SmartSound is now available on Studio 12, as well as on Ulead but all loaded SmartSound didn't show up on Ulead. SmartSound wouldn't work with Studio 12 after loading Ulead but was available with Ulead. The bottom line is that if you load any other program over Studio you take the chance of Studio losing the SmartSound because the other programs write over the SS installer. The only program I have found that doesn't screw up SmartSound is Sonic Fire Pro. {english translation by Fehlmann} |

I have been trying to get SmartSound into Studio 11 for some time. All the other methods had failed. This one worked! Just a note though. For those with the Studio 10 Plus Upgrade it is on Disc one not two.

I agree with the do NOT install the Smartsound update. I did that, and had to reinstall Smartsound all over again in both Studio 11 and Liquid. A good tip! |

Hi, SmartSound was allways inluded with Studio 10. Look in #2 Studio 10 install CD. There is a SmartSound directory containing a Pinnacle Music Installer that will unpack and install SmartSound files. Hope this will help.
Best regards. Rémy |

Allan, that's "normal", because SmartSound is not on Studio 11 CD or DVD, but on Studio 10 CD or DVD... We will slightly change the way the tutorial is explained, maybe it can create confusion. In fact, if you have Studio 10 you should have SmartSound. If you do not have Studio 10, you do not have SmartSound on Studio 11. Is it clearer ? I will check with Remy how we could explain it in the article and clarify the topic. DV FX |

Hi, First of all thanks for the quick reply its nice to know that we can get help for our probs like a lot of people using pinnacle.
I first looked on my deck top and found that i still had smartsound still installed on the computer which was idenicil to the files on the laptop. They work on my laptop as i have got 10 and 11 loaded. Well that what i think anyway.
im going to re load 10 on the desktop and see what happens.
Anything can happen.

Will this tehnique work with Studio 9? I have many Smart sounds with Studio 9, and I never upgraded to 10. I went straight to 11. Is there a way to get my SS's back? Thanks! |

Hello Donna, I would say "Yes, it should also work with S9 --> S11", but I am not sure that someone already tested this particular case. We will wait Rémy Felhmann answer. Otherwise, why not testing it and keeping us informed ? DV FX |

This has not been tested from S9 to S11 directly. Should work fine however because both S9 and S10 are shipped with same SmartSound version. Keep us posted! |

Because I build my own machines I have several computers that I can use to test these programs on before I do anything to my working machines. I followed this tip and it worked as said but if you have any other video programs installed on the same machine you will lose Smart Sound if those programs also use smartsound.
Example: Studio 12 Ultimate and Ulead Video on same computer.
Studio 12 was loaded first and SS was lost when upgraded from 10.
Loaded Ulead on computer and SS was active.
Followed this tip and SS was now available on Studio 12
SS was still active on Ulead but all loaded SS didn't show up on Ulead.
Removed Ulead and reloaded Ulead on computer.
SS wouldn't work with Studio 12 after loading Ulead but was avaliable with Ulead. The extra SS I have didn't show up.
The bottom line is that if you load any other program over Studio oyu take the chance of Studio losing the SS because the other programs write over the SS installer.
The only program I have found that doesn't screw up SS is Sonic Fire Pro. SFP is a great program to use for sound but it just doubles the work and rendering time to finish a project.

Well this has turned out to be quite an effort to retain smartsound.
I read my message and for those who are not really computer savy I thought I would simplify my efforts. This all came about because Studio would not support SS. I bought or downloaded three programs that supported SS.
1. Corels Ulead 2. Cyberlink 7.0 3. Sony Vegas (I already had it!)
Smartsound was working when I loaded Cyberlink on the computer and SS went away in Studio. This was because CL reloaded SS and wiped out the SS in Studio along with all the extra SS loaded. Aslo the SS in CL wouldn't function and when selected would crash.
I reload XP from scratch (reformatted hard drive).
Loaded CL on computer and it worked with SS. Then loaded Studio 11 and it picked up on the SS (with update) and all was going well. Then loaded Studio 12 upgrade and SS still was there.
I bought the HFX deal along with your instructional program and couldn't get the effects to show up after a very long procedure to download them.
Rebooted computer and the effects package showed up in S11 but would not show up in S12. Deleted S12 along with Plugins. Reloaded S12 and transfered content and the effects were there along with SS. All going well until I updated to S12.1 and lost my SS in S12 but SS was still active in S11.
Removed S12 again and reloaded it but SS still was inactive.
I contacted SS and had a discussion with tech support about this issue. Of course they suggested for me to use Sonicfire Pro (I already have it). I told them that it was fine for making a step-up music bed but when you were doing a simple video it was too time consuming to be using two programs. Sonicfire Pro will not render to a AVI or Mpeg file. I suggested to them that they need to put in the SS installer a program a part that will indentify if SS exsists and give the customer a choice to install or not!
At this point I have installed on the computer:
Studio 11 with SS. Studio 12 with no SS. Corels Ulead with SS. Cyberlink 7.0 with SS
I have too much money invested in SS to not use it. If Studio doesn't resolve the problem with SS I will slowly but surely use the other programs. Both the other programs have some pretty unique things in the Magic movie effects way better than Studio.
I will not invest in Scorefitter as so far most of the music is pretty boring for my taste.
If you can resolve the S12 problem without SS I'm sure all would be interested in how!
I have learned after all the stuff with Studio that I don't remove any old program until I'm sure everything works.

Hi Buddy,
Thank you for sharing with us your experience.
Pinnacle did not tested SmartSound with Studio 12 so it is not supported accordingly Pinnacle faq # 17853. Hopefully SmartSound still can be used with Studio 12! It has been already reported that SmartSound can disapear from Studio when other softwares also using SmartSound are installed afterwards. Actually, you did manage very well, until updated to S12.1.
Worth to mention that SmartSound install can be managed independently without uninstalling Studio. You will find SmartSound plugin in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. SmartSound is based on three components: - Quicktime (ressource used by SmartSound) - QuitracksInstaller (plugin SmartSound) - SmartSound Pinnacle Music (to install music songs)
You might want to try below suggestion for fixing your issue with Studio with lcurrent patch 12.1.3.6605;
1. Exit from Studio and ensure you have admin rights
2. Check that Quicktime 7 is installed http://www.apple.com/fr/quicktime/download/
3. Download SmartSound QuickTracksInstaller3090.exe for for Pinnacle 10 or higher (not the 3060) http://www.smartsound.com/support/updates.html?product=pinnacle
4. Install QuickTracksInstaller3090.exe (no need to uninstall any previous version)
5. Reboot the PC
6. Get SmartSound Pinnacle Music.exe from your original Studio 10 CD (located in SmartSound folder of CD # 1 or 2)
7. Install SmartSound Pinnacle Music.exe to deploy music files
8. Open Studio and try to use SmartSound (a message from SmartSound should apprear shortly saying that the library is being rebuild).
Hope this will help, greetings! Rémy Fehlmann
