When everything goes wrong what do we do.......

In a scenario like this, in many cases, we may have to rely on the knowledge and good will of the mebers of a video forum. We must do some tests to determine the causes of the problems! It may necessary to detail the steps one by one, and isolate the step which causes concern, and finally find the offending step (usually a certain scene is a problem for Studio).

Delete auxiliary files

Create a test film

In Edit mode, take a few scenes (AVI preferably). The maximum length of the movie should not exceed a few minutes so that the tests are fast. Make the necessary cuts, add transitions, titles, music, etc. Delete auxiliary files (warning, when doing this, the music imported from a CD will need to be re-imported - general rule, never use music from CD, always use WAV files that you ripped from your CD).

Create your movie and read the AVI with Windows Media Player

(*) For the details of the adjustments, see below

In Make Movie mode, make a video using AVI DV Encoder (named Essai.AVI). Play the file Essai.AVI with Windows Media Player. If everything is okay continue to the next step...

Import the AVI into Pinnacle Studio and read it

Import a file in AVI format in Pinnacle Studio

In Edit mode, import the file Essai.avi onto the time line and play it with Pinnacle Studio. Apart from the quality being lower in overview mode, if everything is okay continue to the next step ...

Export your movie to MPEG format and read it with Windows Media Player

Export options for MPEG-2 DVD Compatible format in Studio

(*) For the details of the adjustments, see below

Create an MPEG (Essai.MPG) from the AVI file with the above parameters. Play the file Essai.MPG with Windows Media Player. If everything looks okay, continue to the next step ...

Import MPEG into Pinnacle Studio

Importing a MPEG-2 file in your non linear video editing software

In Edit mode, import the file Essai.MPG onto the time line and play it with Pinnacle Studio. Apart from the quality is lower overview mode, if everything looks okay, continue ...

Adding a menu (DVD authoring phase)

Add a DVD menu

In Edit mode, add a menu.

Generate a DVD

Create a DVD from an MPEG-2 (export options)

DVD Options in Studio Pinnacle

(*) For the details of the adjustments, see below

Create disc content only (only on the hard drive to do the test) from the MPEG file with the above parameters.

Read your VOB files into your favorite DVD software

Your favorite DVD player

Play the contents (VOB) created by Studio with the help of any software DVD playback file (usually supplied with your DVD burner). If everything is okay we will continue ...

Congratulations !

Victory !

If everything is ok, then you can proceed in the normal fashion, you do not have a hardware or software problem, your problem may just be a "renegade" scene.

The only solution, proceed in the same manner as described above using a video on the order of 10-15 minutes. This may help you find that troublesome scene if you run into a problem doing the above steps...
