AVID just launches a new patch/update to AVID Studio for iPad (1.1) which greatly enhance the application. We strongly recommend to update !!

Indeed, beginning of february 2012, a patch 1.0.1 was launched. We were not really enthusiastic, as it still contains lots of bugs (see below). In April, version 1.0.2 which was solving all bugs. We were extremely happy to see that V 1.0.2 was correcting all bugs we mention previously (see our listing in FAQ AVID Studio, Item #14). We just have one bug pending, not really a major one. Therefore, we listed few enhancements we would like to see in the next release. Mainly regarding picture ordering (newest first instead of oldest first, possibility to have new transitions, montages, effects, etc...)

And today, version 1.1 is launched. Please find below the new feature:

  • Record voiceovers directly to the timeline
  • 14 new transitions
  • New finger swipe gestures allow frame-by-frame and 10-by-10 frame navigation, plus easy entering of mark-in and mark-out points
  • Titles can span across multiple lines
  • Audio tracks can be easily separated from video clips
  • Precision trimmer has been redesigned with enhanced functionality
  • Further stability improvements on all iPads

Do not hesitate and upload the latest update, which is a stable release. And you, what is your feedback ?

Latest article published 22 February 2012:

One week ago, AVID launch a patch for iPad application. Version 1.0.1 is launched.

This update contains many changes that greatly improve stability on iPad 1, while also positively impacting performance on iPad 2. This update does not solve all stability issues. AVID will continue to address stability and other reported issues in future updates. When used with iPad 1 AVID will now only allow photos to be dropped into the dropzones of Montages. This is an iPad1 restriction only and does not affect iPad2.

Performance described by AVID on iTunes:

The advanced editing features of Avid Studio are best experienced on the iPad2. If you are having instability issues with the Avid Studio App even after installing this update, here are some things you can try to improve performance:

  • Avoid using more than two video clips in a Montage (use photos instead)
  • Use lower resolution video
  • Make sure that you have installed the latest iOS version on your device.
  • Completely turn off your iPad and turn it back on to clear out memory.
  • Turn off apps running in the background
  • Make sure you have at least 4GB of free space on your iPad if possible.
  • Go into airplane mode on the iPad
  • Lock the display orientation on the iPad

Known Issues

When the hardware Mute button is switched off, audio will not playback from the Avid Studio App, but will play through the iPad music folder. Please check your mute button on your iPad if you experience this problem. This will be fixed in the next update.

Uploads to YouTube may not complete in certain circumstances:

  • YouTube limits uploads to 15 minutes. Be sure your project length is under this duration. If you have a verified account with YouTube to accommodate longer durations, Avid Studio will support your upload.
  • The first attempt to upload after YouTube account creation may not complete. If this occurs return to editing your project and make a single change. This could be a one-frame difference. Return to the YouTube share option and now the export should succeed. This will be fixed in a future update.

Particularly on iPad1, instability may occur after a library rebuild. We recommend you completely close the Avid Studio App from the iPad task bar to clear the memory, and then restart the App. This issue will be addressed in a future update.

On my side, after one week testing, I must say that I met some problems, with numerous crashes, despite the recommendations I gave in my previous article ... Everything was reported to Avid, pending a patch.

I did however manage to make a film of 11 minutes, it's nice when you're on vacation and you want to do a little editing rapidly (apart from very nasty crashes ... When reopening the application, everything is OK).

When migrating to 1.0.1, I found that restarting iPad is a necessity to recover the functionality of the software, however I was unable to open projects created earlier, be careful if you migrate ...

What about you ?...

I'm trying to post my first video from Pinnacle App (V2.0.2) to YouTube directly from the app (note I have loaded videos to this YouTube account before from my laptop).
The video I'm attempting to upload has had no editing and is 4 minutes long. It was recorded on my ipad and I'm just attempting to uplad as recorded on the iPad. I logged in to my YouTube account successfully from Pinnacle, chose to share via YouTube, filled in the YouTube basic information required for uploading a file and then enter. This is where Pinnacle crashes and brings be back to the option list for how I'd like to share my file. It seems like tit crashes out and goes back to this earlier stage in the process. There are no error messages provided. It just blinks and goes back to the selection page.
Anyonw know how to fix this? I don't think I'm trying to do anything complicated here.

Hello Jason,

Sorry for not answering beforehand, I have moved house and it was difficult to do everything (website + works in the new house...)

Regarding your problem, I recently uploaded a video to YouTube, without any problem. Have you tried:
1/ kill the application
2/ restart the iPad
3/ try to export another movie

I have a video which plays just fine on my Pinnacle iPad app. The problem I'm having is when it is uploaded to youtube there is one portion of the audio on the video segment that is muted. I tried closing out of the app, turning the iPad off and even replacing the same clip from the original video. Can you think of anything to help me resolve this issue? I have the new iPad with retina display which has all of the latest updates installed. This is completely frustrating.

Absolutely horrible online support for what should be a great app. After rebuild I have lost all references to videos, even though they are in the same folders. Movies will not render, and impossible to reload projects from a Mac back to the iPad. Terrible miscalculation, and I am deleting the app today.

Okay, I updated after a reboot, and it seems to be fine. The app looks beautiful, but not being able to reload projects on a mac from iTunes is really crippling. FIX IT, PLEASE!
