Backup before patch

These last weeks, Pinnacle released several patch

Good news ! But what if the patch is even worst than the previous one ? Of course, it's not intentionnal, and usually, it's much better. But not for everybody. You might have a special configuration, which causes troubles with this latest release.

This article is just here to remind you that you should always backup your computer before patching. In case you have a problem, you can roll back... I know, this is trivial, but I just wanted to remind you... How many of you are doing it ? And by the way, if you have no problem, DON'T PATCH !! It's even better, it will avoid that you run into trouble. Just patch if you encounter a specific problem solved by this particular patch.

Why such an article ? Quite simple... I just ran into troubles with, I am unable to playback two MTS file (one on each timeline). Hopefully, I have a backup, and I am with 17.2 again... Otherwise, I am unable to use the software. At least, I can work while I wait for a new patch... I do hope that you will not have the same problem than I do, and if you encounter such a problem, at least you have been informed and you know what to do ?

Do not worry, I am alone with the problem. At least so far.... wink

I agree. If your program is working fine, then I see no real reason to "patch" it unless it adds additional features, not bug fixes.
Most of my work is under 10 minutes and I have experienced with the latest patches better performance out of the software. But the biggest complaints I see are about DVD/Bluray export. I don't do that any more, so can't comment on it. But I do like the idea of Pinnacle trying to fix the problems and not just offer PS18.

Yes! Make it a common practice to create a "System Restore" point before you install or update / patch anything. I have Windows 7 and have got my computer the way I want it. - All the plug in files and smart sound loaded - everything perfect. I have created a "Disc image" on a separate hard drive and have it locked away. If Windows or Studio goes belly up i just pull out the image and re-install everything with one click.
Simple, easy and no stress
