Pinnacle Studio 20 splash screen

Once again Corel releases its new version of Pinnacle Studio with a month ahead of the release date of Pinnacle Studio 19 a year ago.

As always we deliver the premiere of information. We will come back to you with another article when we have had time to test it more. But in the meantime here's what there is to know about this new release and our first impressions.

As usual now, the software is proposed in three versions : PS20 $59.95, PS20 Plus $99.95 ($69.95 if upgrade) and PS20 Ultimate $129.95 ($89.95 if upgrade).

3 versions

You will see that the developers of Corel have been busy and offer many new features :

A new multi-tracks tool for management of transparency of clips. It does not seem obvious at first glance, but I can assure you that this is actually useful.

Multi-tracks transparency tool

A similar interface for managing audio keyframes.

Audio jeyframes tool

New ergonomics for the PIP with the long awaited return of a graphical interface to resize, crop, rotate, position the PIP, as well as the numerical values setting. I know some on the Pinnacle forum that must applaud reading it. Note that the tool is directly accessible from the main user interface under the viewer.

New PIP

A manager for 360° videos. For example with a footage from a Kodak SP360 camera you can transform this :

360 initial

into this :

360 final

Adding of an effects pack New Blue Video Essentials III.

Support of decoding / encoding H.265 - HEVC. Only for PCs with Intel processors or graphics cards of latest generation.

Finally, I saved the best for last. Motion Tracking is finally here. For those who do not know, it can automatically blur a moving portion of a video (eg a face) or to stick a title or image to a moving element of a video. We will return soon in detail on this feature in a tutorial.

Motion tracking

Note that the installation of a first patch will be offered. This patch is only for boxed versions. If you downloaded the software, you got a version "already patched".

I might be mistaken (eg, not yet found it in S19 Ult), but in earlier (historic) versions one could pan and zoom on moving video (useful to either cut out undesirable edge elements, or for enhancing a particular element in a video scene). In S19 I can do this with still pics, but not video, but as I say, that maybe because I haven't found out how yet. Is this feature in S20.

Studio20 appears as 19 in the Contents Folder ! There is a conflict somewhere as the first time I loaded it I got the famous " NG stopped working and will shut down " and only the second time it fixed it !
