Despite the 4 tutorials devoted to the installation of Declic-video transitions, we still find users who are unable to install our transitions. I therefore propose a new tutorial in the form of a diagnostic and troubleshooting tool that will address two crucial points necessary to show the Declic-Video transitions in your Studio version.

Most video editors allow you to create scrolling credits. You have probably noticed that these scrolling credits often have two columns. The left column allows you to enter the character name or technicians function and the right column displays the actors or technicians names. To obtain this type of display, titling software provides a tab function to align columns. Curiously, the different Studio title editors have never had this feature. So we have to find another way to create tabs without a tab function and with only Studio Plus or Ultimate.

Some time ago, a user on the US Pinnacle forum wanted to use the PLS-Curl Horizontal transition from HFX 10 - Peels Curls and Waves contained in Volume 1 of Hollywood FX. But this transition wraps Image A from right to left and he wanted to wrap Image A from left to right. Naturally, he tried to reverse the transition in Studio 18. But, as we all know, after Studio 12 this transition inversion in Studio has become illusory. So is this feasible?

Since Studio 18, Corel has had to adapt our good old Hollywood FX to 64 bit. But as any change often brings bugs, Easy_FX was no exception. Some new bugs don't affect the functioning of the plugin but some may be more troublesome since they can cause Easy_FX or even Studio to crash. Of course, these bugs have been traced to Corel/Pinnacle but during this time, if you work with Hollywood FX, you won't be able to use a number of plugins included in Hollywood FX. So I suggest you bypass these bugs by tinkering with Easy_FX so as to get full use of the Warps and 3D Text effects.

With the installation of Studio 18 64 bits, many of our old Boris Graffiti 32-bit plugins no longer function. After a delay, Boris-FX finally suggested we use a plugin modified from its RED program. I had the opportunity to test it in December 2014 and frankly, I wasn't very happy (complicated installation, EULA Frenchified but incomprehensible, interface greatly changed, incomplete translation of menus, user manual in English that does not always correspond to plugin, RED remnants in window titles and no standalone version shipped with the plugin), all for $69.

If you used Mercalli V2 SAL, you will also see the similarities with Mercalli V4 SAL +. But note that Mercalli V4 (64-bit) is not available in a plugin version for Studio 18 so it only works as a "stand-alone" version. After analyzing the clip to stabilize, Mercalli shows the adjustments it deems most appropriate to stabilize the video. You can then take the time to tweak the initial settings to further improve stabilization by making some changes in a few parameters, which allows you to save clips you never thought were useable.

Since Studio 16, a new way of saving projects has emerged. Looking back a bit, there is very little discussion on the forums and we could, in effect, deduce two things: this is an unknown and unused functionality or it is used but there is no problem for its users. I would lean towards the first hypothesis, and even if you use it, I'm not sure that you have mastered the whole process really well.

We have already published several tutorials about creating end credits. Probably, one of the oldest is the tutorial "Closing Credits - "Star Wars"" because it was already on the old Declic-Video site. That tutorial used the 3rd party plugin JPs Effects . Then came the video tutorial "Tip-4 Closing Credits (#182)" and the "Using the HFX effect 312-finale." tutorial which used Hollywood FX. Then with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate (V14 or higher), it was the Motion titles highlighted by the tutorial "Overview of Motion Title" that were used to make "Closing Credits Using Only Pinnacle Studio" and see how Pinnacle Studio was able to do this task on it's own. Finally it was Avid Studio's turn (or new Studio versions) that did all the work to make a new kind of end credit in "Studio can Create End Credits on It's Own".

Today, with Studio 16 or Studio 17, we will try to do almost the same thing, using titles and effects of the Ultimate version.

This software is not integrated as a plugin into Studio but is used as a standalone program only. It is fairly easy to implement and gives quite good results on the most common corrections. It can be used to record any audio coming into your sound card as a digital audio file. Once your audio has been recorded into a digital audio file, you can use your recordings in other applications.

After you have created an HFX effect, saved, and closed Easy FX (in Hollywood FX), your effect is not included in the Pinnacle Studio album transitions.
Similarly, after extracting an HFZ file (by double clicking on the file), the effect does not appear under the Pinnacle Studio transitions tab.

The reason is simple: Easy_FX and Studio are two separate programs and Studio does not monitor Easy_FX. Changing effects in Easy_FX is not automatically taken into account in the Studio transitions album. It is at this level that you will act as an intermediary...

Before we begin, let's clear up any confusion about the term "Reverse" ... Hollywood FX is the original source for this inversion. In the help files for Hollywood 5.5 or 6.0 you will not find hardly any information on the topic or on the "Reverse Effect" or the "reversal" of transitions. The HFX reverse view path is not entirely reversing the way you had in mind ... Hence the gradual disinterest in this function that has no real value in HFX. The "Reverse Path" checkbox has transformed over time into a "reverse effect" button but without much success. Let's see how we can overcome this issue.

Studio 16 and upper versions come with 3 keyers: a luminance keyer, a color keyer and a transparency keyer. As their name suggests, the first (Luma key) uses the luminance and the second (Chroma key) uses colors to select the areas to change. The chroma keyer will be the subject of this tutorial. To summarize very briefly, a chroma keyer allows you, in post-production, to replace a color in a clip using an overlay.

It wasn't that long ago that we didn't do too much with special effects. Rummaging through my personal archives, I found a clip that I modified with Studio 12. I'm suggesting that we take the original clip and see what we can do with it in Studio 16. This clip was shot on an adult sized airplane carousel ride. The effect I'm proposing is simple, use the  "Rotation" effect to make the occupants of the carousel ride do some quarter rolls before landing. Aerobatic specialists can certainly blame my lack of flying experience for not attempting an Immelmann ... but this is only an example of implementing an effect, and nothing more...

The versions of Studio after Studio 15 (Avid, S16, S17 ...) do not let insert a video before a menu in except the first clip. This is suitable for commercial discs that only treat one subject (the film), but not for us amateurs who generally deal with several themes in two hours of video: family holidays, travel etc.. during a given period.  So how ? : Renounce authoring, make DVD (BD) with a single theme, insert the introduction as the first chapter of the theme? No way: a tip will allow us to make introductions that lead to menus as many times as needed...

From the first use of Avid Studio, one must admit that we are in a totally different environnement from that of Pinnacle Studio 1-15. But we are not too much disoriented, because a majority of the known elements are there. Except that during first editing, one may ask the question: "where's the little checkmark indicating the use of a clip in the current movie? ". This is in order to solve this problem that I suggest you to discover this tutorial.

With the arrival of Avid Studio and new Studio versions, it was necessary to face the facts, the good old recipes do not work anymore because the alpha channel method for tga buttons used with Pinnacle Studio 1-15 was no longer compatible with that used by Avid Studio and new Studio versions.
Aficionados of custom buttons then reached out to the people on the Pinnacle forum to see if anyone knew how ... Alas, the answers were evasive, even demoralizing. Along with Francis57, we searched on our own to try to find a solution to the challenge. Thus, two different approaches were pursued in parallel and resulted in two methods to achieve similar results. By mutual agreement, we decided to show them both to you. This tutorial consists of two independent processes and you can address them separately.

Two things had me leaning this way : opening and closing the red curtain in front of an empty room bothered me a little and I wanted to start my video with a beautiful opening curtain, not a transition.

In its library, "Library Browser", Boris Graffiti also features 8 effects "Animated text transitions". These effects show a first text, make it disappear then display a second text to finally make it disappear. Such an effect is actually a transition between two texts but can also be likened, in some cases, to morphing.

The keyframes in HFX allow animation of the different objects in the effect. There are three types of keyframes : the linear keyframes, the spline curve keyframes and the value jump keyframes. The user guide of the software describes very well these types of keyframes, their use, saving and using of different envelopes with single value or multiple values. Furthermore, our tutorials already published on this page have already explored some concepts around keyframes and envelopes. This tutorial discusses the three types of key frames and more particularly an aspect undocumented : the parameters of curve keyframes.

Files with the extension .3GP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) are compressed video for third-generation mobile phone (3G). Today, with new versions of Studio you can import and export video files .3 GP. But this has not always been the case and DGrenier had proposed a tutorial, taken in part below, to accomplish this with the studio versions below Studio 12 who could not import these file types. As we still have many readers that use versions prior to Studio 12, we offer an retrospective overview of treatment of these files.

There is something that we have never discussed in our tutorials. That is cloning. Rest assured we will not carry out any type of genetic manipulations. We'll take the word cloning in the sense of a programming language: "Cloning is the process of duplicating an instance of an object. You already know that the HFX effect usually consists of several objects. Under certain circumstances, it is necessary to have several copies (or instances) of the same object in the HFX tree. Instead of creating copies one by one, it is possible to select an object and then clone it X number of times to get X identical objects in one transition.

Sometimes you will see a transition in Hollywood FX that you really like but you would like to change the text.

Only HFX won’t let you change the text.
The reason for that is that the “text” is not really text after all. It is in fact an object that looks like text and therefore the individual letters cannot be changed. It would be the same, for example, as having a picture of a coffee cup and saying you want to change it to the words “Coffee Cup”.
This tutorial will explain the steps needed to remove the object(s) and replace it with text that is editable.

Today, I will talk to you about creating a scrolling credit. You know the vertical one that you usually see towards the end of the film?

You think that Title Deko already makes one that way and you are absolutely right. But the credits that I am suggesting are somewhat out of the ordinary and have some features that Title Deko cannot make. In particular, these credits will not be centered, will be on a colored rectangular background with rounded corners, will not emerge from the bottom of the screen and will disappear before the top of the screen and finally, it will include a blurred area at the beginning and end of the text.
