Heroglyph V4 PRO has introduced various new features including :

  • a redesigned interface, clearer, easier to use, with tabbed browsing
  • a real time preview
  • and a projects wizard too

It is this last feature I propose you to discover in this tutorial.

What's the use of a projects wizard ?

Answer : it helps you !

If you want to be able in a few mouse clicks, and without having to read 194 pages of documentation, to create, for example, a video wall, then I bet you will enjoy the projects wizard.
Indeed, you just have to choose among five different types of projects one that interests you and then let yourself be guided by the software to make your project from A to Z project.

The five types of projects available from the wizard are :

  • one of many models already created by proDAD
  • animate an object on a path
  • create a videowall
  • create a slideshow
  • handwriting
How to execute the wizard ?

Answer : the procedure is extremely complex !

  1. open the software
  2. ... do nothing more since the first thing that appears is the projects wizard. Magic, right?

Wizard intro

There is another way : every time you ask Heroglyph to create a new project the projects wizard window will display.

How does it work ?

Answer : choose your type of project and click thumbnail which corresponds.

I choose for this tuto videowall :

Video wall

Immediately a window displays where all available videowalls models are presented. I choose the Puzzle category and Classic : 5 5. This corresponds to a 5 pieces high puzzle by 5 pieces wide :

Puzzle 5 by 5

Note that one of the new features announced in my intro was real time preview. Clicking on a model and you get a small window that opens with an animation that shows in real time how will behave the video wall :

Effect preview

By clicking the right edge of the 5x5 a window lets yYou can even make it rectangular :

Choosing the number of puzzle pieces

Let's turn to the project settings by clicking Next.

How to set the videowall ?

Everything (or almost) will be done from this window :

Videowall setting

With a simple drag n drop or by pressing Add image / video you insert the photo or video to be displayed in the puzzle.

The Texture tab dropdown menu lets you decide if the puzzle should respect the original video Aspect Ratio or not :

AR preservation

The Style tab allows you to choose from many styles of puzzle pieces :

Differnt styles of pieces

Again the real time preview will show you the result of your choice.

The Animation tab will allow you to determine the total duration of the video wall display :

Animation duration

The wall can be with or without animation :

Effect options

If you choose with animation you can request a continuous animation or an in/out animation. Each time, a list of animation models is offered with real time preview :

Choice of animation

Finally, for in/out animations you choose the duration.

Fade in + fade out

When everything is right for you you can press Insert.

With File, Save As, Export Animation you export your videowall in an AVI :

That's what it could give with a few of handwriting too :

Your tutorial is great..they always are. My problem is, when I export as an .avi, I cannot get Avid Studio to put it in the Library.

Why don't you use it as a plugin instead of a standalone version ? This way, you would avoid export issues.

I have been trying to use it as a plug in, but it just doesn't work. Sometimes it partially renders, sometimes it does not render at all.I don't know if it is Heroglyph or Studio.

As always a great Tutorial !! I just found out the hard way that Windows 7 is required and somewhere there should be a mention of that fact !

Well that stinks ! I saw nothing about Windows 7 being required. Any chance of getting a refund?

Hello Gert, hello John,

We have a mention of it in our proDAD FAQ, and the information is also on the proDAD website (I just added it to our proDAD news as well - hard to do better than that, we will not repeat the specifications in each tutorial).

John, you might try to ask a refund to Element5, but I doubt it's easy, since the information is clearly written everywhere. Nice try anyway...

@ John: you should not need to export as AVI and import in Studio, normally it should work integrated with Studio. I think that you do not have a standard version or installation.

PS: Warning with the specs, both for AVID Studio and proDAD Heroglyph.
