To enhance your video we have already shown you how to insert animated gif in your videos with "Using an Animated GIF in Studio", and add shapes with " How to add shapes (arrows, squares ...) in Studio." This time, we offer a fully customizable HFX plugin that allows you to insert different talk bubble shapes in your videos or slideshows with fully customizable text that is easily movable.

Step 1 : Using the Plugin in Studio

Because it's a plugin, you should use the HFX Filter in Studio. If you want to know the difference between a transition and a plugin, please refer to our FAQ  #8 on the Hollywood FX page .

But in any case, you should be able to get this kind of result:

Step 2 : Presentation of the Plugin

The 372-bubble-cartoon plugin, which is free to download , comes with 6 bubble shapes. Before downloading, you can preview this effect in the corresponding page or watch the video inserted at the end of this tutorial.

The tutorial "Learn Hollywood FX (HFX)" contains everything you need to know to use Hollywood FX. In particular, it contains all the links that may be useful to achieve, in detail, the various operations described briefly below. For details on the operations to be performed, you can always refer to it.

After applying the HFX Filter effect to your clip, you need to edit the HFX Filter. This will open Hollywood FX for Studio. It will display the plugin in the Hollywood FX interface:

  1. Use the show/hide button to show or hide the album effects;
  2. Select the "00-Declic Video" group in the album tree;
  3. Double-click the 372-bubble-cartoon effect to load it in the HFX interface;
  4. All configurable parameters are framed in red in the Effects tree.
Interface Hollywood FX with the plugin

These parameters are contained in two editable objects:

  1. The "Bubble" object which contains the shape of the bubble, its location, its size and position in space;
  2. The "Text3D" object which displays the name of the text it supports. It contains the text, font, size, and the various modifiable attributes (face, back, side, bevel), the location, overall size and its position in space.

To make things easier, these two objects were placed under the control of a master object (Master) to move more easily between the two objects.

Step 3 : Customizing the Effect

The position of the talk bubble and the text can easily be changed:

  1. Select the "Master" object which includes the two subordinate "Bubble" and "Text" objects;
  2. Click the "Move" button;
  3. Using the mouse, drag the group of objects that is selected in blue.
Moving plugin + text bubble

It is very easy to change the shape of the bubble. Six forms are available. Simply select the form that suits you.

  1. In the "Bubble" object , selecting "F1" will allow you to access the "control" panel for the "F1" element.
  2. In this control panel, select media. In the drop-down list, choose one of the 6 available bubbles.

For more advanced users, you can even replace the original media with any bubble shape that you made on your own.

Selecting a bubble shape

You can also easily change the text in the bubble and its font, size, and attributes.

  1. Select the "Text" object which is actually a "Text3D object."
  2. In the control panel, next to the "Text" section, edit existing text (you can also, depending on your text, change the font and size). You can even use a Webdings or Wingdings font if you want to use, for example, mystical symbols or signs;
  3. Leave the text quality setting at 2. Studio doesn't always like higher text qualities.
  4. You can modify individual text attributes.

For more details on these changes, see step "THREE-DIMENSIONAL TEXTS" tutorial "Tuto-7 Warps, Filters and 3D Text."

Changing text and its attributes

If you choose to, you can even use textures to enhance the look of your text.

  1. Select the attribute to embellish;
  2. Use the "Show / Hide" album button;
  3. Move to the bottom of the album tree, until you find the "Surfaces" heading then select "Textures";
  4. Drag the texture on to the attribute you chose to embellish and the change takes effect immediately in the display panel.
Using textures to attributes

If the origin point of the bubble isn't where you need it, you can rotate the bubble and move it as explained below.

To rotate the bubble object :

  1. Select the "Bubble" object;
  2. The "Y" Rotation parameter is set to 0. Change it to 180 or -180, either gives the same result ...

Last but not least, you can adjust the position and size of the two objects relative to each other.

  1. By selecting the "Bubble" object, you select only the bubble to adjust;
  2. By selecting the "Text" object, you select only the text to adjust;
  3. Click the "Move" button;
  4. Your mouse pointer will turn into a cross and you can drag the selected object to center it exactly in the right place.

Thanks for the cool plugin.
The Talk Bubble pluggin is there.
But I could not edit the text in the Talk Bubble.
When the Blue-Italic is clicked, the Text control panel does not appear.
Any idea what is the problem?

I am using the Pinnacle Studio 16.
Just want to add the Talk Bubble in my video

Hello Kisa,

Sorry for not having answer beforehand... I translate the answer from Le Papy:
"It's probably a problem with a font. The plugin is installed by default with Arial-32 italic" which were delivered with previous HFX versions. If you don't have this font on your system the text does not appear. In such case, please select the Text3D object called "Blue-Italic" and change the font in the parameter panel (top-left of the interface), with a font installed on your system. Should work, let me know"
