With the installation of Studio 18 64 bits, many of our old Boris Graffiti 32-bit plugins no longer function. After a delay, Boris-FX finally suggested we use a plugin modified from its RED program. I had the opportunity to test it in December 2014 and frankly, I wasn't very happy (complicated installation, EULA Frenchified but incomprehensible, interface greatly changed, incomplete translation of menus, user manual in English that does not always correspond to plugin, RED remnants in window titles and no standalone version shipped with the plugin), all for $69.
Step 1: The Current Situation
Recently a user asked me how he could get this plugin and at what cost. So I visited the Boris FX website to check the price. I discovered a totally new site which no longer supported the famous plugin. So I asked Boris-FX where you could get it. I was directed to purchase the full version that Pinnacle supports at $299 (or $199 for updating a previous full version) without further explanation ...
It was then that I remembered receiving offers at the end of May advertising a Boris FX "bundle" which included:
- Pinnacle Studio 18.5 Plus - HD 64-bit;
- Boris Graffiti - 2D & 3D animated titles with hundreds of predefined titles;
- 125 Lower Thirds
They are all customizable with the plugin for $99.95 instead of $218.95.
Step 2 : Should You Buy this New Offering?
After further investigation, this offer is still valid. You can access it through this link...Today, 11.18.2015, the offer was removed by Pinnacle.
So I tried this new offer. It is a Boris-FX offer marketed by Pinnacle (estore.pinnaclesys.com/store), with 125 Lower Thirds produced by Eye Scream Factory (ESF)...
Boris Graffiti plugin is identical to the one I tested in December 2014 and my comments remain unresolved.
But depending on your situation, the purchase of this package may or may not interest you:
- If you have not migrated to Studio 18 (or 19), Studio 18 Plus with Boris Graffiti + 125 Lower Thirds for $ 99.95, it is not expensive;
- If you already have Studio 18 (or Studio 19), you can make a gift to a friend and install the plugin on your Studio 18 (or your Studio 19): The plugin + 125 Lower Thirds for $ 99.95 is correct and above all, it will let you use your old Boris Graffiti effects (grf files that you may have created with Studio 12 plugin or that you have downloaded). If you have the standalone version shipped with the Boris plugin Graffiti included in Studio 12, you can even continue to create your BG Effects with the standalone version by following our Boris Graffiti tutorials and use them in Studio 18 (or 19), with the 64-bit plugin previously created effects;
- If you had trouble with the previous plugin, the new plugin interface will require very little additional learning without the help of our tutorials based on the old interface ... So in this case you should know that 125 Lower Thirds are customizable with the Boris Graffiti plugin advanced interface ...
Take time to consider the pros and cons, depending on your budget.
Step 3 : If you Have Decided to Buy the Bundle ....
Please go to the order page for the bundle.
After the usual formalities of registration, ordering and billing, you will arrive at the estore.pinnaclesys.com page where you can download the files as usual. Below is the order page for the "bundle".
- After paying, you should have received a confirmation email containing information captured below.
- Your order number.
- Three files, Pinnacle Studio 18 Plus 64 bits, or Pinnacle Studio 18 Plus 32-bit to download.
- Your Studio 18 Plus serial number.
- Boris Graffiti file, 32 or 64 bit, and the 125 LowerThirds file.
- Your Boris Graffiti plugin serial number.

Step 4 : Installing the Plugin
If Studio 18 is not installed, start the installation of Studio 18, referring to the tutorial [ARTICLELINK 1841]. Otherwise you can install the plugin immediately.
- You are asked if you want to install the borisgraffiti6_6forcorelx7_pinnacle_64bit_tnb.exe file. The usual warnings are shown to you before you run this file type. But the publisher is clearly identified and known, so you can safely run it ...
- If you agree, click the Run button.

 |
Choose the installation language from the drop down list and click OK. |
 |
- The installer may detect that certain items required by the plugin are missing from your computer, so it shows you the option of installing them for you.

You get to choose the installation type.
- For this, I will advise you to use the custom installation, later you will understand why ...

- The installation of the plugin on your computer generated an unique code number in the form of XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-that changes with each new installation.
- If you do not have the license immediately activated and you have received an unlock code Internet compatible with the previous single code number, you can enter it in this field.

- Click the Finish button.
|

- From the Help menu, here is a view of the "About Boris Graffiti" panel.
|
 |
- If you have activated your plugin, you will have the first line of information show "Licensed". If the plugin is not enabled, this notation shall be replaced by the number of days remaining before the end of the evaluation period.
- Name, company, email address, serial number, auto-generated code installation of the product, and unlock code are listed.
- Note the presence of that button ... It is very important as we will see in the bonus panel.
- This button takes you to the Boris website.
- Do not ask me what the Memory button is, I haven't been able to figure it out ...
- The Close button closes the window...

|
 |
The Studio Gallery displays the Boris Graffiti plugin in the Content>fx Effects>Filter>BorisFX menu. |
 |
The Effects editor displays the plugin under 7 Add-ons>Filter>Boris Graffiti. |
 |
Step 5 : Installing 125 Lower Thirds
The default installation can be summarized in creating a folder containing:
- 125 files * .AXP
- a readme file that explains what you must do to include them in Studio 18.
Here in detail is the program installation procedure.
Step 6 : Bonus Deactivation
Earlier in this tutorial, I called your attention to the "Turn off ..." button that I highlighted with a red frame.
This button is used to disable the Boris Graffiti plugin.
So if you want to uninstall your plugin to install it on another machine, you must first disable the plugin in order to reactivate it later. From experience, I can tell you that even on the same machine, if you uninstall the plugin without prior deactivation, you can not reinstall without going through Boris FX-support.
If you did not disable the plugin, you can not reactivate it on the other machine, except by providing all supporting info to Boris-FX.
|
 |
- Rest assured you are in Boris Graffiti ...
- Are you sure you wish to deactivate your product?
- If you are sure, click the Yes button.
|
 |
- Rest assured you are in Boris Graffiti ...
- You now have one available activation.
- Click the OK button.
|
 |
In the Help/Buy/activate Boris RED menu of the plugin:
- You are in a trial version valid for 15 days.
- You can enter your serial number and verify it.
- If the verification is good, the Enable button will become active. If you are connected to the Internet, activation will be done. You can also enter your unlock code.
- Click the Close button.
|
 |
With all the objective information I just gave you, you should be able to make your decision based on price, advantages and disadvantages of this plugin, and use that to make your decision. So do not wait too long because I don't know how long this "bundle" offer will be available. ... Too late, today 11.18.2015, the offer was removed by Pinnacle.
{Thanks to Loosecannon for the fine tuning}
