Frequently, on the forums, Pinnacle Studio users are commenting that they can not insert an empty title on the timeline. A dialog window opens in the bottom right of the interface with the following: "Default title wasn't found in the installed content. Title Editor can't be opened". Of course, they did not touch anything ...
Step 1: Probable Causes
It falls into two possible categories:
- A deliberate action on the part of the user who deletes the title in the library included in the "-Special" folder and named "BlankTitle". This is unlikely.
- More likely, many alterations to the library content (additions and/or deletions of effects, media, titles, transitions, and deletions of missing media).
Step 2: Determining the Cause
After selecting a track and positioning the cursor at the insert location for the title, click the Title button. |
 |
.
And instead of getting a blank title in the desired location:
- A dialog window appears in the bottom right of the interface with the following text: "Default title wasn't found in the installed content. Title Editor can't be opened".
- You just have to click the "Dismiss" button ...

Step 3: Checks to Be Made
Start by examining the contents of the Titles folder in the "Content" branch. There is a good chance that your "Titles" folder is incomplete, and in particular that the "-Special" subfolder is missing (which is the case in the screenshot on the right ). |
 |
- In C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\MotionTitles\-Special up to Studio 17 or C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\StudioXX\Content\MotionTitles\-Special for Studio XX.
- Make sure the 2 Blank Title files are present.

 |
Step 4: Resetting the Library
The library database has been corrupted by many changes, additions, deletions, etc. Resetting the library using the "Reset" button is not always enough.
Close Studio.
By deleting or renaming the folder that contains it, Studio will recreate a completely new library the next time it's opened.
To do this, Windows must be allowed to display hidden files and folders. In Windows Explorer / Organize / Folder and Search Options / View tab, select "Show hidden files, folders and drives" and press Apply. (Or Control Panel / Folder Options / View tab "Show hidden files, folders and drives").
Depending on your Studio version, the library is located in different places:
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Pinnacle\Studio\16.0. Rename the 16.0 folder to 16.0-OLD. Studio will create a completely new 16.0 folder the next time you open the software.
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_17\Studio\17.0. Rename the 17.0 folder to 17.0-OLD. Studio will create a completely new 17.0 folder the next time you open the software.
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_18\Studio\18.0. Rename the 18.0 folder to 18.0-OLD. Studio will create a completely new 18.0 folder the next time you open the software.
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_19\Studio\19.0. Rename the 19.0 folder to 19.0-OLD. Studio will create a completely new 19.0 folder the next time you open the software.
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Pinnacle_Studio_20\Studio\20.0. Rename the 20.0 folder to 20.0-OLD. Studio will create a completely new 20.0 folder the next time you open the software.
Step 5: Epilogue
If all went well up to this point:
- Open Studio.
- Allow it time to rebuild the library (10-20 minutes).
- Gradually the modifications, folders and sub-folders are created and filled.
- And if you're lucky, the -Special folder will return.
Don't worry about the order in which the folders are displayed, the order will change in subsequent openings of Studio.
If this phase is not crowned with success, you can try the last chance trick :
- Drag'n'drop a title from the library to the timeline.
- Once the title is on the timeline, double-click this title.
- If the title editor opens, in principle, it will then open when you click the T icon later.
Otherwise, you have to uninstall / reinstall Studio ...
