We have already published several tutorials dedicated to the installation of Declic-Video transitions in Studio:

These three tutorials were supplemented by the "My HFX transitions create problems for me..." tutorial which is a summary of the hazards you are likely to encounter when installing Declic-Video transitions or other HFX transitions.

In spite of these four tutorials, we still find users who can not install our transitions. I am therefore offering a new tutorial in the form of a troubleshooting and diagnostic tool that will address two crucial points essential for showing the Declic-Video transitions in your version of Studio.

Step 1: Overview

Over the years, the various Studio versions used different paths to get to the Hollywood FX transitions.

  • Studio from version 12 to 17 uses the Hollywood FX transitions included in Easy_FX.exe software located in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\HollywoodFX folder.
  • Studio 18 uses the Hollywood FX transitions included in Easy_FX.exe software located in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Studio18\Content\HollywoodFX folder.
  • Studio 19 uses the Hollywood FX transitions included in Easy_FX.exe software located in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Studio19\Content\HollywoodFX folder.
  • Studio 20 uses the Hollywood FX transitions included in Easy_FX.exe software located in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Studio19\Content\HollywoodFX folder or Easy_FX.exe software located in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Studio20\Content\HollywoodFX folder (According to the choices made during installation).

On your computer, you can potentially have several executable Easy_FX.exe programs placed in different folders, independent of each other and containing data specific to each of them (with an exception for Studio 18 / Studio 19 in the sense 19 to 18).

Step 2: HFZ Files Treatment

This is the first crucial point . If you do not reach the end of this step, there is no need to read the next steps and you will not see the Declic-Video transitions in your Studio software, no matter what you do elsewhere. So we will see in detail the HFZ files operating conditions, the intermediate issues you may encounter during this step and any workarounds needed.

The Hollywood FX transitions are exported with HFZ files. The Declic-Video-FX site makes more than 550 HFZ files available to you to download for free. The HFZ files open with the InstallHFZ.exe program. This program essentially serves two purposes:

  • It decompresses the HFZ files which are submitted.
  • It installs transitions and their contents in the Hollywood FX software (Easy_FX.exe) corresponding to the latest version of Studio installed on your computer ( See step 1 Overview) .

The decompression operation:

  1. Download the HFZ transition files from our website that you want to install on your computer.
  2. Select one or more HFZ files - Do not select more than 30, 40 or 50 files (depending on their individual sizes) otherwise decompression will not start.
  3. Open the selected files by right-clicking / Open or click the Open button in the menu.

By selecting multiple files, you will have to select only one special installation procedure and then the corresponding decompressions, thus saving time.

Opening HFZ files
Some transitions require special treatment. In this case, the decompression will be preceded by another installation as shown at the right. Preparing to Install

The installation consists in configuring the latest version of Studio installed on your computer.

If you do not let this operation go to completion and you click the Cancel button ...

Studio Setup
You will be warned about the consequences of your action and your transition currently being installed will not be decompressed or installed. User canceled the installation

But letting the Studio configuration continue normally, the program may stop because it can not find the PinnacleStudio.msi file. This file was contained in the installation folder created on your desktop at the end of the installation of Studio. You have removed or moved it...

  1. If you have moved it, use the Browse button to specify to Studio where you have moved it.
  2. Click OK to continue.
  3. Or click the Cancel button in the other cases.
In search of Pinnacle Studio.msi file

By clicking on the Cancel button, Studio instructs you on how to proceed: You must reinstall Studio to once again have an installation folder containing the PinnacleStudio.msi file. If this option does not appeal to you, you can use one of the two following tips:

  1. Drag a HFZ file on to the InstallHFZ.exe file that corresponds with your version of Studio ( See step 1 Overview) .
  2. If you have the skills to try editing the registry, change it as indicated in paragraph 10 of step 1 of the "My HFX transitions create problems for me..." tutorial.

Pinnacle Studio.msi was not found
But you can also get this window that stops the installation of the transition. This is a random Pinnacle bug which will block the HFZ files decompression. You absolutely can do nothing more. You can only click on the OK button to stop the installation. The bug that prevents decompression transitions

The result was immediate: "Fatal error during installation."

There are two workarounds:

  1. Dragging a HFZ file on to the InstallHFZ.exe file.
  2. Editing the registry.

Finally, if you have overcome all obstacles, you will get an installation report that looks like this. A report Installation

Verify that the installed transitions are indeed present in Hollywood FX (Easy_FX.exe) that corresponds to your version of Studio ( See step 1 Overview) .

  1. In the 00 - Declic Video folder.
  2. Thumbnail of installed transition .

You have passed the first crucial point, you can proceed to the next step. laugh

Step 3: Providing XML Files to Studio

We are tackling the second crucial point . For Studio to display Declic-Video transitions, you must provide the XML file that accompanies each transition. These XML files are only created by the Studio versions lower than 16. That's why we make the XML files available that accompany the HFZ files you download on our website. In parallel with HFZ file downloads, you can download, in our download page, the HFX-DVFX-STUDIO-XXX.Zip file (XXX correspond to the issue of our last published transition). This zip file contains the XML batch program installation files, a thumbnail file, XML files of all our transitions. The tutorial Install our free HFX transitions in Pinnacle Studio includes a complete description of the use of this HFX-DVFX-STUDIO-XXX.Zip file.

To further improve the efficiency of the XML batch program installation files, three additional conditions were added to the batch program:

  1. Use control in an administrator session.
  2. Level control of user accounts (UAC) specific to each version of Windows.
  3. Location of decompression HFX-DVFX-STUDIO-XXX.Zip file folder .
The batch program must be launched as an administrator. Even if you are an administrator of your computer, right click on the INSTALL.BAT program and choose "Run as administrator" You are not in an Administrator
The UAC should be set at the lowest level to run the batch program. You can adjust it in the Control Panel \ User Accounts and Family Safety \ User Accounts \ Change User Account Control settings. UAC is not set at the lowest

This window appears:

  • when you have not installed Studio on the default C:\ drive.
  • when the HFX-DVFX-STUDIO-XXX.Zip file folder is not on the same drive as Studio.
The installation of Studio is not a default installation

If the batch file process ends well, XML files have been copied into a HFXDVFX folder of the Studio versions installed on your computer. For example, for Studio 19, XML files are copied to C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Studio 19\plugins\ RTFx\ HfxXML\HFXDVFX. You can check for these XML files, and if they are present, you have completed the second crucial step, you can proceed to the next step. laugh

Step 4: Possible Reset of Studio Transitions Library

Normally, after the success of the previous two crucial points, the Declic-Video transitions should appear in the Studio library in Content / Transitions / User Transitions / 00 - Declic Video.

But sometimes, Studio is a little cantankerous. If that happens, then proceed with a somewhat abrupt reset of your User Transitions album.

  1. Open Studio and display the group of 00 - Declic-Video transitions library if it already exists and empty the Windows Recycle Bin.
  2. Open Windows Explorer.
  3. Open the HFXDVFX folder that contains the XML files.
  4. Select all the files in the folder.
  5. Send all files to the Recycle Bin.

The transition icons will disappear from the Studio library. It may take about a minute, depending on the number of transitions and the power of your computer.

Manual drain of Declic-Video transitions

When the transition icons have all disappeared:

  1. Open the Recycle Bin.
  2. Restore all files to their original place.
  3. Confirm the files are restored to their original location.
Gradually, the icons for all transitions will return to the Studio library.
Manual restore of Declic-Video transitions

You will now be able to enjoy the transitions that you downloaded. enlightened
